With this, USPS has made plenty of improvements and innovations in their delivery system that benefits most of its clients.

Mail, and Post Office. USPS is a reputed, independent agency of the U.S.

It is responsible for offering postal service throughout the United States, even including its associated states and other insular areas. You will be fascinated to read the fact that it is one of the few government agencies, which is authorized by the U.S.

The USPS dates back to the year 1775 when Benjamin Franklin was chosen as the first postmaster general in the Second Continental Congress. However, the Post Office Department was formed only in the year 1792 during Franklin’s operation.

Based on the Postal Reorganization Act (1970), the USPS (United States Postal Service) was transformed into an independent agency. As of 2017, the USPS had 644,124 employees and 211,264+ vehicles.

The USPS is lawfully obligated to serve every American, regardless of his or her geographical location, at uniform quality and price. When we talk about postal service, one of the perplexing questions that come to mind is — Does USPS deliver on weekends.

However, congress blocked such recommendations, which gives continuing life to USPS delivery days to stay even including their services during weekends. But then again, is it the right move.

Won’t USPS collapse if their finances continue to rise and their income can barely fend for their needs. If that will be the case, one solution that we can highly think of is to privatize USPS or perhaps to open the competition in postal markets.

Should the US follow the lead of Germany and the Netherlands who already privatized their national postal services some decades ago.

If they do not want to privatize it though, we can still opt to open up some competitions as done by Sweden and New Zealand. These reformed changes made the postal systems of these countries live more years and there was an improvement seen on services and efficiencies offered by these companies to the postal services which benefited productivity and consumers as well.

Are Weekend Delivery Times Different? [7]

Getting your mail delivered on the weekend can be a bit of a hit or miss proposition.

The USPS (United States Postal Service) has had a long-standing reputation for NOT delivering mail on Sunday.

But is that reality.

Is it true that your mail won’t be delivered on Saturday or Sunday.

Not necessarily.

By the time you’re done with the details below you’ll be a weekend warrior when it comes to sending (or expecting) mail on the weekend, knowing for sure if – and when – your mail is set to arrive on the weekend.

To put it simply, the USPS will in fact deliver mail on Sunday – in certain circumstances, anyway.

What does this mean for you.

It’s pretty simple.

Any other type of USPS mail services and you’re probably going to have to wait until Monday morning both around to get your packages, your parcels, and your envelopes.

You don’t want to be watching your mailbox all weekend with zero chance of your mail actually arriving.

As we just highlighted a moment ago, not all USPS services are going to be available on the weekends.

Plenty of USPS mail delivery options aren’t available on Saturday, too.

These two premium USPS services guarantee that your mail will be delivered on a very tight schedule.

This is a great option for those that are sending mail out on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon that want to be sure that their mail is going to hit its final destination before Monday morning.

This means that you can realistically afford to drop this type of mail at the post office on a Thursday or Friday afternoon and have a pretty decent shot of that mail arriving at its destination before Monday morning, too.

Aside from those two options, though, it’s important to know that Amazon has a contract with the USPS to deliver their packages seven days a week.

All of this tracks back to what we mentioned a moment ago, and that’s that you’ll have to use Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express to get your mail delivered on a Sunday – especially if you are looking for a two day delivery window.

Most of the time (emphasis on most of the time) you can expect Priority Mail to reach its ultimate destination within two days as well.

It’s also important to know that you are going to have a difficult time getting ANY mail delivered in two days if you roll into the post office late on Friday afternoon.

Try to get there as early as you can to avoid these issues altogether.

Weekend delivery services are sometimes charged at a premium price from the USPS, but only if you are taking advantage of Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express.

The premium services, though, are going to command a premium price tag.

Those premium price tags may or may not be worth the expedited delivery speeds that they guarantee. Only you are going to be determined whether or not that’s the case.

Weekend delivery times can be a little different, especially if your post office is operating on a five day work week schedule with the sixth day of delivery picked up by a different mail carrier – something we dig a little bit deeper into in just a moment.

That means that if your mail is usually delivered in the late afternoon (say 3 PM local time) that you’re likely going to see your mail on the weekend delivered around the same time.

Because Sunday deliveries are so sporadic and so rare (aside from Amazon deliveries, anyway) your Sunday delivery timeline can really be all over the place.

Other times you might get it around dinner time (or even later).

Most post offices are open for Saturday pickup, though they usually have limited times of operation that you want to be aware of.

Sometimes you’ll still be able to pop into the post office and get your mail from a parcel locker or from a PO Box even if there isn’t anyone at the desk, but again this is all going to come down to your specific post office and how they operate.

Some post offices may have workers in during the holiday season to move mail a little more efficiently when they are really slammed, but that doesn’t translate to opening up the retail side of the post office on Sundays.

As we mentioned a moment ago, sometimes you will have the same mail carrier on the weekends and other times it will be someone else entirely – perhaps even someone that takes a different route to get your mail to you, changing up your delivery window.

You may have a regular mail carrier that handles Monday through Friday with the rotating mail carrier handling Saturday and Sunday deliveries.

At the end of the day, though, generally these kinds of delivery schedules are identical across the board.

If you need to get your mail urgently on the weekend – and know that you need to pick up your mail or have your mail delivered outside of normal business hours – it’s not a bad idea to reach out to the USPS directly and see if they are able to help.

You were expecting a delivery to happen during the weekend and it didn’t – your Saturday or Sunday delivery just didn’t arrive – it’s important to contact customer service, too.

You’ll want to make sure that you are compensated or reimbursed if your premium purchase didn’t actually end up making much of a difference at all.

Let’s look at an example. If you used Priority Mail Express service and sent something on July 3 before Independence Day, USPS would consider July 5 the “next day” under the Priority Mail Express service.

These professionals usually have a fixed route and fixed delivery time windows. Then there’s the sixth day when a “floater” delivers your mail.

These temporary employees work on a rotational basis, filling in for your full-time mail carrier during the week when they are off. If you order during this time, there is a good chance that your products will experience delays. When it comes to the USPS, customers need to know about insurance and cut-off times.

If you need more protection, you can top it up. Cut-off times for dropping off merchandise at the post office are between 15:00 and 16:00.

First-Class Mail is the label assigned to regular everyday mail such as letters and bills paid for by a stamp, often called “snail mail.” Snail mail is not a priority, so USPS only delivers it Monday to Friday to keep shipping costs low. However, if an area becomes overwhelmed with high volumes of mail and packages during peak time, USPS mail services may deliver First-Class Mail on Sundays until the backlog has cleared.

USPS Sunday delivery times also depend on the delivery destination. Typically, you can expect your delivery in the morning.

Will My Amazon Packages Arrive On Sunday? [14]

Have you been eagerly waiting all week to get your USPS package. And now the weekend is rolling around, and I bet you are unsure if your parcel will be delivered on Sunday.

If you’re anything like me, you can’t and don’t want to wait until Monday to receive your package. After all, waiting for an exciting and/or much-needed package can be a hassle.

However, only specific types of packages and services apply. In this post, we’ll discuss the details of USPS Sunday deliveries, including the locations where it’s available, the types of packages that qualify, and how you can leverage this service.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is the largest delivery service in the nation. It services individual residences along with Post Office (PO) Boxes.

In general, USPS offers its customers many options for sending and receiving packages and mail pieces. These shipping services include:

So now let’s get to the good stuff and figure out if your package will be delivered on Sunday. No.

You should not expect to see your mail carrier walking around with their mailbag going from house to house. Therefore, regular mail like letters, cards, and bills will not be delivered on Sunday.

Continue reading to see which packages apply. Yes.

Good news. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can rejoice because USPS will deliver your Amazon package on Sunday.

Through this partnership, USPS coordinates with Amazon to receive some of its customer’s packages. Due to the quick, one or two-day turnaround time, that means some packages have to be delivered on Sunday.

Just like with Amazon packages, you can also expect your USPS Priority Mail Express shipments to be delivered on Sunday. USPS advertises this service as being deliverable 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

If the package is not delivered within the guaranteed timeframe, you are eligible to get your money back. Being eligible for a refund is only after the package is not delivered on time, which is by 6 pm on the guaranteed delivery date as promised by USPS.

The starting price for mailing an item with Priority Mail Express, also known as overnight delivery, is $28.75.

Additionally, to ensure Sunday and Holiday delivery, you must include the added fee of $12.50 to the shipping cost.

USPS Priority mail service is also a speedy option, advertising a ship time of 1-3 business days. It is important to note this timeline only includes business days.

USPS Priority Mail continues to be a more cost-effective option with prices ranging from $9.65 to $10.40 for envelopes and $10.20 to $22.80 for boxes. No.

That is because First-Class Mail includes the standard letters as mentioned earlier.

This also includes packages that are sent via First-Class. USPS First-Class continues to be more cost-effective than both USPS Priority Mail and USPS Priority Mail Express.

The price increases incrementally with each ounce. That is, up until the weight cutoff for this service, which is 13 ounces.

If the merchant shipping your item used USPS Retail Ground as their service, your package will not be delivered on Sunday. This package delivery option is good for bulkier items that are in no rush to get to their destination.

If you ordered a book, printed music, CD, manuscript, or other forms of qualifying media, you will have to wait until Monday to receive your item. Due to Media Mail being one of the most affordable options for shipping items, Sunday delivery is not included.

Luckily USPS Saturday delivery operates extremely similar, if not the same, as normal Monday through Friday operations at USPS. You can expect your Priority Mail Express and Priority Mail packages to be delivered on Saturday.

USPS has made no direct delineation on these services and Saturday delivery. In general, in most metropolitan areas, you can expect to see your letter carriers walking from mailbox to mailbox with letters and packages just as you would on any weekday.

Additionally, mail services needed by going to the post office may be limited. Some post offices limit their Saturday hours to either open late and/or close early.

Due to federal holidays, you may experience delays during the holiday season with the delivery of your mail or packages. However, you can expect holiday delivery to operate the same as the Sunday delivery guidelines outlined above.

That means USPS Priority Mail Express packages and Amazon packages will be delivered on a holiday. USPS observes the following federal holidays:

If this is the case, the holiday will officially be observed by USPS on the following day, Monday.

However, you can expect your Priority Mail Express or Amazon package as scheduled. If you utilize the services to pick up your packages from the post office, you will have to wait until Monday.

Be especially mindful, again, if the federal holiday falls on a Sunday. If this is the case, you will not be able to visit the post office Sunday or Monday due to the holiday being observed formally on Monday.

If not, then listen close. USPS offers a service to notify its customers of the mail they will be receiving on a daily basis along with projections for future mail.

That way, you will know if you can expect your package to be delivered with USPS Sunday delivery. This free service sends an email to your inbox each morning with a preview of the mail you will be receiving that day.

Additionally, it provides the tracking number for packages you are expected to receive that day. Plus, it has a section for packages “arriving soon”, notifying you of packages that are expected to arrive in the coming days.

From the email, you can go onto your dashboard to see the mail that was to be delivered to your house over the past week.

Then, that information will be disclosed for law enforcement and investigative purposes if you were to suspect your mail has been lost or stolen. In order to access this service, create a USPS account and sign up for Informed Delivery.

As we talked about earlier, USPS has Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express options for shipping. If you choose to ship an item with either of these two services, did you know that you can get free envelopes and boxes.

That’s right, there’s no catch here. 100% free.

Although this may feel like stealing, it’s true. Just make sure the box or envelope says Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express.

To do this, navigate to the USPS website. In the Quick Tools section of the dropdown bar, find where it says Free Boxes.

Either create an account or sign in, enter your shipping address, and USPS will handle the rest. Your mailperson will deliver your boxes/envelopes to your door during regular mail delivery.

If you are urgently needing to send or receive an item over the weekend, you may need to pay up for the Priority Mail Express service. Otherwise, you can use a more cost-effective option and wait it out until Monday.
