Back in March, the show delivered a preview dripping with 1980s nostalgia. The trailer has its fun retro moments — Dustin sprays Lucas in the face with Farrah Fawcett hair spray when the friends sneak up on him — but it’s obvious that danger still dwells in Hawkins.

And it’s really a shame that Mews, Dustin’s family cat, met such a tragic end, because it appears rats have invaded the town. (Read: Stranger Things temporada 3 en español.).

The show seemingly came out of nowhere in July 2016, with a 1980s setting and rich pop culture details. Young Will Byers disappears one night after playing D&D with his buddies in Hawkins, Indiana.

It boosted the sales of Eggo waffles, Eleven’s favorite snack, and created an entire movement, Justice for Barb, after a beloved character disappeared from a pool and sent fans off the deep end. The third season is about to explode, and co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer say a fourth and fifth season are likely.

And in an interview with CNET Magazine, David Harbour (Hopper himself) also confirmed that tidbit about the show: We can expect Stranger Things to stick around for another few years and push into five seasons.

Cary Elwes: Elwes, forever known to many as Westley in The Princess Bride, plays the town’s mayor. “Handsome, slick and sleazy, Mayor Kline is your classic ’80s politician — more concerned with his own image than with the people of the small town he governs,” Netflix says.

Jake Busey: Busey, son of acclaimed actor Gary Busey, plays Bruce, described by Netflix as “a journalist for The Hawkins Post with questionable morals and a sick sense of humor.”. Bros forever: One of the most endearing features of the show so far came when Dustin and Steve developed a likable little bro-big bro relationship.

“That’s what I really like about (showrunners) Matt and Ross (Duffer): They know what fans like and they roll with it.”. Millie and Eleven: Millie Bobby Brown recently revealed that she and her character are melding even more this season.

“She’s very vulnerable, very powerful and strong. I can relate to her strength mostly.” The actress also said she had a hand in her character becoming more stylish, even “(showing) a little leg.”.

The moms of Hawkins may think he’s hot stuff at the local pool, but the summer looks bad for ol’ Bill. Freeze, police.

Both men and women, aged 18-50, of any ethnicity, are needed. Hmm, what Stranger Things plot could call for a large military or police presence.

Strike up the band: In September 2018, casting notices were posted seeking people with marching band experience to appear in a Stranger Things episode. As with the police/military casting notice above, there isn’t a ton of info to go with this news: v-pre Will it be a school band.

Are they to appear in a parade. And, of course, we don’t know if any of the main cast members will be part of the band, which would seem to mean it could play a larger role in an episode, or if the band is just background noise.

Life’s a beach: Celeb site Just Jared published a photo of Millie Bobby Brown filming what appears to be a pretty dramatic scene at the beach in Malibu, California. Stranger Things, of course, is set in landlocked Indiana, so maybe the Pacific Ocean is standing in for an Indiana lake or river.

About a week later, more snaps of the cast taken in Georgia were revealed, this time, featuring most of Eleven’s friends, but she wasn’t seen. It’s unclear what scene the kids were filming, and most of them were wrapped in robes, either to keep warm or to hide whatever they were wearing.

Eleven’s backstory revealed: Viewers have already met Eleven’s mom, troubled Terry Ives, but a new young-adult novel published in February 2019 digs into her mother’s past even more. Entertainment Weekly published an excerpt from Gwenda Bond’s book, called Suspicious Minds, and it follows Dr.

Five-year-old Eight, who Eleven meets when she’s quite a bit older, also appears.

“They’re like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life. ” executive producer Shawn Levy said.

But his quote seems to hint that love and relationships will be a part of season 3, for good or for ill.

There is currently no release date for Stranger Things season 5, but it’s likely to be sometime in late 2024. Why hasn’t it been released yet.

Filming was originally set to begin in June 2023, but series co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer decided to postpone production when the WGA Strike began. Once the SAG-AFTRA strike began, this further delayed the production of the season.

Now that both strikes are over, the producers and actors are ready to get back to work. According to industry websites, filming is expected to begin in Atlanta, Georgia in January 2024.

It’s true, the Stranger Things saga will conclude with season 5. In February 2022 series co-creators Ross and Matt Duffer released an open letter stating that season 5 would wrap up the series.

At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll soon see for yourselves – we are now hurtling towards our finale.

Netflix’s Stranger Things is headed to the stage with an original, official prequel.

All good things must come to an end—even Stranger Things. The hit Netflix sci-fi thriller, which first arrived in the summer of 2016, will conclude with its fifth season, which has no release date yet.

“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” they wrote. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons.

Season 4 will be the penultimate season. season 5 will be the last.”.

Here’s what we know so far.

As the Duffers say in their letter, it took almost two years to create the fourth season, which was released in two parts, on May 27 and July 1, 2022. While filming ST4 during the height of the pandemic and lockdown surely involved its own delays, producing a massive finale season will require a long wait, too.

David Harbour all but confirmed this theory. “I think we’ll [shoot] next year.

“But I think that’s the plan. So it’d probably come out mid-2024, based on our track record.”.

The Duffer brothers announced via the show’s official Twitter account that they would be halting production in support of the WGA and the writers on the picket line, further delaying the release of season 5. “Duffers here.

“While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work.

#wgastrong.”. It has become less common for writers to be on set during production, though this was once the norm.

No new date has been announced as the strike unfolds. How do you sum up this epic story, one that transcends dimensions and stretches far beyond the borders of Hawkins, Indiana.

we’re just not privy to it yet. We do know one thing, though: Expect tears.

“I mean, it was hard. It’s the end of the story.

Actor David Harbour, who plays Hopper, had previously confirmed to Variety that he’d learned the season 5 ending and thought it “quite moving and quite beautiful.”. In the Duffer Brothers’ February letter to fans, they added, “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things.

“But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension called the Upside Down. As always, we are gracious for your patience and your support.”.

Matt Duffer told Empire, “Usually at the end of a season, we tie things up with a nice bow, before a little tease that says, ‘Hold on, something is unraveling.’ As we move into season 5, we won’t have to do that. There won’t be a reset from where we finish this season [season 4].” And the Duffers kept their word: Season 4 ends with a cliffhanger, as the Hawkins crew prepares for one last battle with the Upside Down.

Oh, and we can expect Will Byers to finally come out of the closet. As actor Noah Schnapp confirmed to Variety, “it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike,” later adding, “There’s so many different things they have to address.

And I’ve always been wondering, why was Will the first victim and the first one captured. ”.

Jamie Campbell Bower told NME, “I don’t think he’s slunk off licking his wounds in misery. He’s rebuilding, and he’s out for blood.” He could stronger than ever in season 5.

The Stranger Things writers hinted that there’ll be eight episodes when they tweeted a photo of a whiteboard separated into eight columns, each numbered from episode 1-8. They later tweeted the first page of the script for season 5, episode 1 on Nov.

It’s titled “Chapter 1: The Crawl.”. The episodes will probably be shorter than season 4’s super-sized ones—except for the finale.

“The only reason we don’t expect to be as long is, this season [season 4], if you look at it, it’s almost a two-hour ramp up before our kids really get drawn into a supernatural mystery. You get to know them, you get to see them in their lives, they’re struggling with adapting to high school and so forth, Steve’s trying to find a date, all of that.

When it comes to the series finale, “We’re more likely to do what we did here, which is to just have a 2.5 hour episode,” he added.

Ross Duffer told TVLine, “I’m sure we will do a time jump.” Which makes sense, given how quickly our lead actors are growing up. “Ideally, we’d have shot [seasons 4 and 5] back to back,” Ross added, “but there was just no feasible way to do that.”.

We just don’t know what it will be about yet. (Though Finn Wolfhard has apparently already figured it out.).

“I think actually we’re going to start delving into that soon as we’re winding down and finishing these visual effects, Matt and I are going to start getting into it.”. Matt Duffer added, “It’s going to be different than what anyone is expecting, including Netflix.” Intriguing indeed.

Most of the main cast is expected to return, including Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Noah Schnapp (Will), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Sadie Sink (Max), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Joe Keery (Steve), Priah Ferguson (Erica), and Winona Ryder (Joyce). And at least one new cast member will join in season 5, as Netflix announced during its 2023 TUDUM event: Terminator actress Linda Hamilton.

For her part, Brown is ready to return—but only once more. She recently admitted to Seventeen that she’s eager for season 5 to be her last.

“I feel like there’s a lot of the story that’s been told now. It’s been in our lives for a very long time.

Brown added, “I’m able to create stories myself that are important to me and focus on the bigger picture. But I’m really grateful [for the show].”.

• The main one for Season 4 is Vecna. Stranger Things is a lot of things.

It’s funny—just about every character has a handful of laugh aloud moments in any given season. It’s exciting—who can resist watching the next episode as soon as the previous one ends.

But possibly above all, Stranger Things is.. well, it’s pretty creepy—if not outright scary.

In true Stephen King fashion (The Duffer Brothers are die-hard fans of the legendary author, and clearly paid homage to him in a number of ways), the show features a number of monsters who make life a living hell for our heroes. But what are these monsters.

The newest addition to the Upside Down is Vecna. Like previous Stranger Things villains, Vecna comes from Dungeons & Dragons, and in the game’s lore is described as a once human turned undead wizard.

He can control minds and even paralyze people. And after Season 4, we know his actual backstory too, not just the D&D lore.

He exhibited powers from a young age and generally terrorized his family, eventually killing them. Dr.

Brenner found, so he’s tattooed with the number 1). When Dr.

In Volume 1, we discovered Eleven removed Henry’s chip and Henry in turn..killed everyone in the lab except for Eleven and Dr. Brenner.

Unfortunately, she accidentally sent him to the Upside Down and opened the first ever portal. So this entire time Henry’s spent time gaining his powers and becoming Vecna, waiting for the chance to take over the world.

The main villain/monster for Stranger Things 3 is the Mind Flayer. Named after the Dungeons & Dragons monster, the Mind Flayer is a monster that possesses a host, and uses its body as a vessel to carry out its evil.

Oh yeah, that’s right—the Mind Flayer possesses and melts down a whole lot of rats.

It’s pretty creepy, and really gross.

Maybe for good this time, the Mind Flayer is dead.

Will Byers, who’s just seemingly gotten past the events of the first season, keeps snapping between the real world and the Upside Down—and he sees a giant, spider-like monster, made entirely of smoke and shadows. Will is continually attacked, and eventually possessed by the monster.

The boys figure the monster out using the D+D lore (where it earns the ‘Mind Flayer’ moniker). As Will lets everyone know “he likes it cold,” eventually they figure out that the way to defeat the Mind Flayer is with heat—Joyce and Jonathan blast a tied-up Will with heat lamps, and the Mind Flayer is forced out of Will’s body.

The Demogorgon was the original Stranger Things monster (and there were a few of them), and probably still the show’s flagship monster. This is the monster that originally took and feasted on Barb (RIP), attacked Nancy through the tree gateway, and tormented both Will and Eleven.

It’s creepy stuff.

Eleven also defeated another one by blowing it to smithereens with her powers, blasting herself into the Upside Down in the process.

During the Season 3 finale’s credits scene, we get a look at a far-away Russian prison, where the much-discussed “American” is being held. When that “American” is passed over for another prisoner, that prisoner is taken to a torture room, where, you guessed it, a Demogorgon awaits.

When all seemed well at the end of Season 1, Will Byers was having dinner with Joyce and Jonathan, and excused himself briefly to the bathroom. Instead of, like, usual bathroom stuff, we saw Will flash back to the Upside Down, and then cough up a weird slug-like thing into the drain.

By the early part of the next season, Dustin (a notable science nerd) finds a slightly-grown version of this same slug, and, thinking he’s discovered a new species, takes it in and names it D’artagnan. ‘D’art,’ as they begin to call it for short, turns out to be a mini demo-gorgon, or a demo-dog, and thanks Dustin for his kindness by eating his family cat.

The Demo-dogs cause all sorts of problems throughout the season, but Steve Harrington gets to have a real hero moment when he fights three of these bad boys with his spiked baseball bat, as Lucas, Dustin, and Max watch on.

We will never forgive them for eating poor Bob.

But if, even still, you desperately wanted to love Stranger Things as much as the people around you, and couldn’t manage to fake it, I have made a list of things you might enjoy more.

Watching Tessa crack up in the background of certain high-tension scenes would be worth it alone – or at least, in tandem with the more and more outré acting-out of her sociopathic nephew – but once you add the unbelievably high-minded design, which combines cartoonishly sumptuous interiors and hysterically dramatic color schemes, lingering aggressively over its giant collections of oddly specific knickknacks, and regularly slips in references – Wyeth, for one beautiful example – to the art-history, and thus class-cultural, implications of its title.

But we have expectations for premium and prestige networks, the same way we indulge allowances for streaming originals. To see these same ambitions on display on a Big Four network is really something.

Freeform’s Dead of Summer, which expands its bailiwick and impressively nails it, time and time again. What if nostalgia and actual relevance, actual human insight, were all part of the same experience – what if instead of the drug of “escapism” we took that child inside you, brought it back to life again.. and then actually nourished him or her.

She’s now in Vecna’s clutches. At the end of Volume 1, we learn Vecna was actually a troubled youth sent to the Upside Down by Eleven after a fight between the two.

The powers that be believe Eleven must return to defeat her old foe if Hawkins is to survive. And that’s where we stand.

Back on August 2, 2022, the show’s writers revealed that they have begun working on season 5.

There will be at least eight episodes, and fans are also wondering about a mysterious double line that seems to split the season into two. The writers confirmed that it isn’t a time jump but might mean something else.

As we already know, Netflix loves to play some fun and games when it comes to Stranger Things announcements, but we also didn’t even see this coming. The Stranger Things IG account posted a mysterious video showing off a very destroyed Scoops Ahoy that has fans wondering what is up their sleeve.

When sharing the post on their stories, they added “something sweet is coming,” which means an announcement is coming.

What can it be. We might have to travel down to the Upside Down to find out.

Stranger Things season 4 (Volume 2, especially. ) definitely hit the right melody — Vecna’s curse reference intended — with fans.

The first sign that Netflix aimed to expand upon the hit series came in September 2021, when the streamer’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos teased plans for Stranger Things during the Code Conference. According to Deadline, Sarandos said, “Franchises are good, but what you want are hits.” The media outlet claimed he hinted at “spin-offs” and that the series is a “franchise being born.”.

However, the pair did give us some hope that it won’t truly be the end, writing, “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things. new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”.

The streamer took to Twitter to announce, “The Duffer Brothers have formed Upside Down Pictures, a new production company through which they will develop film and television projects as part of their overall deal with Netflix.” Named after the Stranger Things alternate dimension, the production company was revealed to be working on a Duffer Brother original ST spin-off, but also, “A new stage play set within the world and mythology of Stranger Things.”.

With so many different directions the Duffer Brothers could take with the plot of the Stranger Things spin-off, it’s too early to tell what the new show will be about. However, the team is certain about what they don’t want in a follow-up show.

“I’ve read these rumors that there’s gonna be an Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) spin-off, that there’s gonna be a Steve (Joe Keery) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) spin-off or that it’s another number,” the Duffer Brothers said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in July 2022. “That’s not interesting to me because we’ve done all that.

But the Stranger Things writers quickly debunked the rumors on Twitter.

In July 2022, the Duffer Brothers hinted that the spin-off will be attached to the original series by “storytelling sensibility” and that not even Netflix knows what they have planned for the new series. But one lucky cast member is in the know about the new show.

They added, “But aside from Finn, no one else knows. ”.

“The idea, ultimately, is to pass the baton to someone else, someone who’s hopefully really talented and passionate,” Matt said. “Even the idea of Ross and I, say, doing a pilot and leaving it, it just feels silly to me.

I think we need to find a partner to help us with that.”. We hate to see it – no casting decisions on the Stranger Things spin-off have been made available (but we’re all ears over here at Seventeen.

There have also been no revelations on whether any of the OG cast members will be returning for the spin-off.

Given that the series has not started filming yet and seemingly hasn’t even begun the casting process, there is no set debut date for the Stranger Things spin-off. Since the Duffer Brothers revealed in an interview with Collider that they don’t want to shoot season 5 of Stranger Things at the same time as they film the spin-off, fans can expect to see the conclusion of ST before the new series comes out.

While no plot details or casting has been made public, Netflix did write in a July 2022 Tweet that Sonia Friedman, Stephen Daldry, and Netflix will produce the play, with Daldry also taking on the role of director.

Netflix announced on Twitter that Upside Down Pictures will be putting out “an all-new live-action television adaptation of the renowned Japanese manga and anime series Death Note.”. In addition, Ross and Matt will also be taking on an original series idea by creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) as well as “a series adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman to be created by Curtis Gwinn.”.
