To my knowledge, this laptop may need be fully supported with Windows 8. HP usually has to upgrade the firmware/bios of their laptops in order to support full Windows 8 Compatibility.

You can use the following link in order to check if your laptop is compatible or not with Windows 8: Furthermore, you can check the following HP article if, in-fact, your laptop does support Windows 8:

That should fix your mute button. I just did this, so I know it at least works for my computer.

I solved this by going into the BIOS and clicking on the tab to Restore Defaults.

Method 2: Turn on WLAN AutoConfig service  [2]

When you try to connect to the internet on your laptop but your usual WiFi network is not showing up, it’s very frustrating. But don’t worry.

Read on to learn how…. Here are some solutions for you to try.

just try each one in turn until everything’s working again. Generally speaking, there are several causes for this issue:.

This guideline introduces 6 methods for you to troubleshoot.

You can’t connect to the WiFi if your Windows disables it. So you can try these steps to enable WiFi service.

Some laptops, such as HP, Lenovo, Dell, have a switch or a key on your keyboard to turn on/off WiFi (like Fn+F5). Check the switch or keys and turn your WiFi service on.

1) Right click the Internet icon, and click Open Network and Sharing Center. 2) Scroll down and select Advanced network settings.

3) Then click More network adapter options. 4) Right click WiFi, and click Enable.

4) Restart your Windows and reconnect to your WiFi again. WLAN AutoConfig service (also referred to Wireless Configuration in Windows XP) can configure wireless security and connectivity settings.

Moreover, when the WiFi becomes available, it will automatically connect to a preferred wireless network. You can follow these steps to enable it:

2) Right click Wlan AutoConfig (if you are using Windows XP, right click Wireless Configuration), and click Properties. 3) Select Automatic in Startup type, then click Apply, and click OK.

Wireless network driver allows your operating system to communicate with your wireless and network adapters. If your wireless network is not showing up on laptop, it is probably due to the missing, outdated, or corrupt drivers.

There are two ways to update drivers: manually and automatically. Manually update driver – You can manually update the network driver by searching the correct driver that is matched with your Windows OS on the manufacturer’s website, and install it in your computer.

Automatically update driver – If you don’t have time or patience to manually update drivers, you can do that automatically with Driver Easy.

More importantly, with Driver Easy, you don’t need to struggle figuring out the Operating System, and you don’t need to worry about making mistakes while processing. That will tremendously save your time and patience.

It only takes 2 simple clicks with the Pro version (and you will get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee). 1) Download and install Driver Easy (at first connect your computer to the Internet via Ethernet cable).

Then Driver Easy will scan your computer and detect any problem drivers. 3) Click Update button next to the driver name to download the correct driver (you can do that with the FREE version), then install it in your computer.

4) After updating the drivers, restart your computer, then connect to the WiFi network again, and see if your problem solves. If the problem occurs to your own WiFi network at home, you can also check the WiFi itself to see if it’s your WiFi issue, including the router issue, SSID broadcast and device interference mentioned below.

Restarting your modem and wireless router can help you reconnect to your ISP. Note: anyone who is connecting to the network will be disconnected temporarily while you are doing this.

2) Wait for at least 30 seconds. 3) Plug your wireless router and modem back into power source again (put the battery back to the modem).

Tips: If it is the first time to connect to the WiFi, you will need to pay attention to the WiFi network frequency. You can’t connect if your computer uses mismatched frequency with your router’s.

Luckily many routers are dual-band model now, so it both supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band. To check your WiFi network frequency, you can go to the router manufacturer’s website.

Generally speaking, 802.11a/ac uses the 5 GHz band, 802.11b/g uses the 2.4 GHz band, and 802.11n uses either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band. if they don’t match or include the frequencies of your router, the WiFi network won’t show up on your computer.

Once you disable SSID broadcast, your WiFi network won’t show up in the list. Tips: Many people disable SSID broadcast for security concerns.

But the first time to connect to the WiFi network, you’ll have to configure the profile settings manually, including the network name and security mode. After making the initial connection, devices can remember these settings and will not need to be specially configured again.

The specific interface may vary from different computers. Here we take TP-link WiFi router as an example:

2) Open your browser on PC or mobile phone (connect to the Internet via Ethernet cable on your PC or use mobile phone that has internet connection). 3) Type the IP address in your browser, and press Enter.

5) Go to Wireless > Wireless Settings. Check the box next to Enable SSID broadcast, and click Save.

The WiFi signals can be interfered by many household devices, such as your cordless phone, microwave oven, Bluetooth speaker, etc. because they use the same 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequencies.

1) Turn off those devices, and unplug the power source. 2) On your PC, try to connect your WiFi again, and see if it shows up.

Then move your modem and wireless router to another place, so they are not in the same light with the household devices. In addition to the way mentioned above, you can also buy a 5 GHz router or dual band router, because many household devices use the frequency of 2.4GHz.

Windows is a very old technology. Sure, Windows 10 is relatively new, but it’s still just the latest iteration of a decades-old operating system, designed for a bygone era (pre-internet).

Why is that a problem. Because when you’re constantly installing uncontrolled third-party programs, you’re constantly opening the door to viruses and other malware.

Plus the way Windows manages installed software and hardware has always been a problem. If your computer shuts down unexpectedly, or a program installs, uninstalls or updates incorrectly, you can get ‘registry’ corruptions.

Also because everything’s installed and saved locally, it doesn’t take long before you run out of disk space, and your disk gets fragmented, which makes everything even slower and more unstable. For most people, the simplest way to solve Windows problems is to ditch Windows altogether, and switch to a faster, more reliable, more secure, easier to use and cheaper operating system….

ChromeOS feels much like Windows, but instead of installing heaps of programs to email, chat, browse the internet, write documents, do school presentations, create spreadsheets, and whatever else you normally do on a computer, you use web apps. You don’t need to install anything at all.

And that’s just the start of the benefits…. To learn more about the benefits of ChromeOS, and to see comparison videos and demos, visit GoChromeOS.com.

Turning on Wi-Fi via the Start menu in Windows 10 [3]

Wi-Fi capabilities are a feature on pretty much every computer on the market these days, and turning Wi-Fi on is the quickest and easiest way to get online on your Windows computer.

If it’s not, or if you’ve accidentally disabled it in the past, and can’t figure out how to get it back, don’t worry. Here’s how to get up and running on Wi-Fi in no time.

This is common on laptops, and will likely require you to press the Fn key and one of the numbered F keys at the top of the keyboard. 1.

On the toolbar, there may be a Wi-Fi icon, which resembles a radio signal transmitting upwards. If it isn’t there, click the upwards facing arrow to see if it’s grouped with the other icons not on your toolbar.

Click on the Wi-Fi icon on your toolbar, then click again on the larger Wi-Fi box that appears in the pop-up menu to turn Wi-Fi on. 3.

Click the Windows button and type “Settings,” clicking on the Settings app when it appears in the search results. 2.

Click on the Wi-Fi option in the menu bar on the left side of the Settings screen.

Toggle the Wi-Fi option to On to enable your Wi-Fi adapter. 5.

Quick tip: You can also search for “Wifi” and select Wi-Fi settings and skip directly to step 4 above.

Why My Hp Laptop Is Not Connecting To Wifi? [4]

If your HP laptop is equipped with a wireless network card, you can use it to connect to wireless networks. In order for the wireless connection to work, the wireless network card must be turned on.

If you do not have the HP Connection Manager, you can turn on the wireless card using the Windows Device Manager. Select Wireless Setup Wizard from the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu.

If the Wireless Setup Wizard is not visible, select Wi-Fi Protected Setup or WPS, and then click the Push Button, followed by the steps to connect to the network. You can access the Control Panel from your Start Menu.

Change adapter settings is a quick and easy way to change your adapter’s settings. You can enable Wireless Connection by right-clicking on the icon and selecting enable.

HP laptops usually have a switch on the side or front of the keyboard that can only be used for the wireless functions. If the switch is not located on either side or front, it could be located on one of the function keys at the top of the keyboard.

It could be that the WiFi connection is not strong enough, or that your laptop’s WiFi adapter is not compatible with the router. It could also be that the router is not configured correctly.

An indicator light typically displays when it is on. You should not use your computer in airplane mode.

Most HP laptops come with a switch that can only be used to turn on wireless functions, whereas most other models come with a switch on the side or back of the computer. The switch may be located above the keyboard or on one of the function keys located at the top of the keyboard, if not on either the side or the front of the keyboard.

Whether you’re connected to WiFi or not, you can always see the light. it’s a matter of color.

To turn on the wifi, simply open the network settings and enable the wifi adapter. To use wireless services, you must first establish a wireless network.

In System Preferences, select the Network icon, and then click it. If you have a Chromebook, navigate to the Settings menu and select Wi-Fi.

If a network has been detected, a green icon will appear in the status bar. If your HP laptop’s WiFi is disabled, it’s likely due to one of the following reasons: the physical WiFi switch is turned off, the WiFi driver is outdated or corrupted, or the WiFi antenna is not properly connected.

If the wireless activity light is off or amber in color on your computer and you press the wireless key or button on or near the keyboard, you are enabled for wireless networking. You could use this key for the F10 key, the F12 key, or an airplane symbol.

Enter the password for the network and click “Connect.”. There are a few ways to turn on WiFi on an HP laptop without using the button.

Another way is to use the Fn+F12 key combination to turn on the WiFi. A faulty power cord may prevent the power button from working in some cases.

Begin by pressing the Windows key and the S together to access the system settings. Once you’ve entered the system settings, look for the Network and Internet tab and click on Wi-Fi.

After unplugging the battery, connect the adapter, and press and hold the power button on the notebook for 30 seconds to ensure the Wireless light is turned on. The second step is to uninstall the wireless drivers from Network Adapter and then restart the unit to see if the light comes on.

The first step is to ensure that Win 10 is installed and that the wifi button is operational. After you’ve clicked Settings, go to Network – > Internet -> Wi-Fi, and press the on button.

Finally, ensure that the wifi power management option is turned on. If those steps do not work, there are a few other options.

The next step is to restart your laptop. Finally, if the rest of your options fail, you may be able to contact your laptop’s manufacturer.

Use wireless troubleshooting tools [5]

Use automatic tools to test and fix a variety of wireless conditions. If one tool does not resolve the issue, use another one.

Use Network Check in HP Support Assistant to perform network diagnostics for your computer. In Windows, search for and open HP Support Assistant, or click the app icon in the taskbar.

Select your computer, and then select HP Network Check under Troubleshooting and Fixes.

Click Next, and then wait for the tool to complete.

Under Possible Root Causes, click the listed possible cause, select a recommended action, and then follow the instructions.

Repeat these steps until the network connectivity issue is resolved or all possible root causes and repairs have completed. Use the Windows Network and Internet Troubleshooter to test and repair the network connection.

Wait while the Windows Network Diagnostic analyzes the network connection. If prompted, select the type of network problem, and then follow the instructions to resolve the issue.

Complete any suggested actions.

Step 2: Update Wireless Adapter Driver [6]

If you’re on Windows 10 and your Wi-Fi is slow or goes on and off from time to time, you’re not alone. Many HP laptop users are reporting this problem as well.

Here are 4 fixes for you to try. You may not need to try them all.

Step 1: Reinstall Wireless Adapter DriverStep 2: Update Wireless Adapter DriverStep 3: Check and Reset Hardware SettingsFinal Option: Refresh or Reset Windows 10. To start off, if you have not yet performed automatic troubleshooting to look into the problem, you should do that right away.

There are two ways you can launch the Auto Network Troubleshooter: Way 1 – Run Auto Network Troubleshooter from the Settings app.

1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and X at the same time, then choose Settings.

3) On the right side of the pane, click Run the troubleshooter under Internet Connections.

5) When the automatic troubleshooter finishes running the procedure, you will be able to see certain error notifications. For instance:.

If you do not see the exact notification showing on your screen, feel free to leave us a comment and we will do whatever we can to help 🙂. 1) Type cmd in the search box on your taskbar, and select Run as administrator.

3) Click Next in the popped-up window and the troubleshooter will start detecting hardware problems automatically.

Then follow the onscreen instructions to fix the issue, if possible.

2) Locate and expand Network adapters option.

4) When the confirm window appears, hit the Uninstall button to continue.

6) Your HP laptop will start to reinstall the wireless network adapter driver for you. When the process finishes, close Device Manager and restart your laptop.

7) After the restart, try Wi-Fi connection again. If the problem remains, skip to Step 2.

The following instructions require an workable Internet connection. We recommend you use Driver Easy Offline Scan feature to locate the correct driver for your wireless adapter first.

1) On your keyboard, press Windows key and X at the same time, then choose Device Manager.

3) Then right click the wireless network adapter you have and choose Update driver.

5) Your PC will start the search for you. The process could take some time.

If the newer driver cannot be found in this way, it is suggested that you go to the HP website or the manufacturer of your wireless adapter (in our case, Realtek) and locate the driver by yourself.

It’s a tool that detects, downloads, and (if you go pro) installs drivers your laptop needs.

With Driver Easy, the process of updating the driver narrows down to only two clicks: first on the Scan Now button, second on the Update button. The correct driver will be downloaded and you can install them as you want – either manually via Windows or automatically with Driver Easy Pro.

1) Turn off your laptop first. Disconnect all peripheral devices, such as printers, keyboards, mice, and a second monitor.

Then, remove the battery.

3) Unplug the power cord for your wireless router or modem. If your network includes a separate broadband modem, unplug its power cord as well.

4) Wait for 5 seconds, then plug the cord(s) back. The light should be all on.

5) Insert the battery in your laptop and plug in the AC adapter. Do not plug in the external devices just yet.

6) Power on your laptop. Use the arrow key to choose Start Windows Normally and hit the Enter key.

7) When you log into the desktop normally, right-click the network icon on the tray section and choose Open Network and Sharing Center.

9) Check the status of your network connection. If you see the status of it is Disable, right-click your wireless connection and choose Enable.

If your laptop was able to connect to your wireless network just fine, but not now, you may need to consider restoring your Windows 10, back to the date when wireless networking was working well.

Checking that wifi adapter is installed [7]

Probably you have already tried everything to turn on wireless capability on HP laptop, from installing wifi drivers, hotkey buttons and enabling wifi in the system. We know how frustrated is when you can’t find solutions even on HP official web site.

First, check that wifi adapter is installed. If there is X on wifi symbol in taskbar, you have to install driver for your wifi adapter from the web site of laptop manufacturer.

Press the Airplane mode key (usually F12). It should enable wifi capability.

Finally, if nothing above helped, this should. Power off computer, power it on and immediately press Fn and F10, then only F10, and repeat that.

When you enter BIOS (motherboard settings), there should be an option to enable multimedia buttons, action buttons or similar. If it is set as “disabled” or “standard function keys”, you should change it to “multimedia keys” or “special keys” or similar.

After that, press F10 and choose Save and Exit. When Windows loads, press F12 and check if there are wireless networks available.

Conclusions  [9]

HP’s Spectre X360 14 promises a great deal, including 11th generation Intel processors up to the Core i7 in my review unit, an OLED screen and up to 11.5 hours of battery life (or up to 17 hours if you forego OLED). You also get quad speakers, Wi-Fi 6, a webcam with a privacy cover and Thunderbolt 4, so there’s plenty on board to attract anyone seeking a capable and flexible laptop for the office and/or home.

The Spectre X360 14 looks like a 2-in-1 that means business. My review unit came in silver, but depending on the specification you opt for there are also blue and black finishes.

HP’s Spectre x360 14 is available with 11th generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and OLED or IPS screens. One of the Spectre x360 14’s two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports is on the angled corner at the back of the right side.

As on other HP laptops, the back edges, top and bottom, are angled at 45 degrees, creating an eye-catching indent at the back of the laptop.

When sitting at a desk and working in laptop mode, this port is awkward to access because it isn’t easily visible. I had to either stand up or swivel the Spectre x360 14 around to get to it.

The long edges are chamfered rather than flat. The USB-A port on the left edge has a pair of mini-chamfers right into the port, which look rather neat.

The USB-C port is even a bit off-centre. The MicroSD card reader is beneath the upper chamfer, so it can only be seen if you bend to the side or lift the laptop up.

Left side (top): USB-A (USB 3.2). Right side (above): MicroSD, USB-C Thunderbolt 4, 3.5mm combo audio, USB-C Thunderbolt 4 (on 45-degree edge).

You will notice the 1.34kg weight, and the power brick is larger than some, adding further weight to the complete kit. You’ll also need to find secure bag space for the provided HP Tilt Pen, which comes with the laptop.

The Tilt Pen clings magnetically to the left edge, but only to that edge, and you won’t want to store it here long-term.

HP Display Control gives you plenty of colour gamut options. The 13.5-inch OLED touchscreen in my review unit has 3000-by-2000-pixel resolution (267ppi) and 400 nits brightness, and was an absolute pleasure to use.

Whether you opt for OLED or the IPS alternative, the Spectre x360 14 incorporates a range of colour settings. You can select between them manually via the HP Display Control pop-up in the System Tray, or open the full app to make advanced settings, which can automatically kick in when you launch an application.

The screen sits in small bezels all round (HP’s data sheet quotes the screen-to-body ratio at 90.33%), so the overall size of the Spectre X360 14 convertible is about as small as it can be at 298mm wide by 220mm deep by 16.9mm thick.

Fortunately there’s room for a webcam above the screen. This can be protected by a privacy cover, and HP has eschewed the easy option of a physical slider and instead provided a Fn row key that, when pressed, causes a cover to slip over the lens.

A screen as good as the OLED panel on my review unit deserves great speakers, and there’s a quad array here, with grilles above the keyboard and on the underside. The speakers are provided by Bang & Olufsen, who also brand an audio control app that includes an equaliser and some pre-sets for music, movie and voice.

The keyboard is quiet in use, and individual keys have plenty of bounce. HP has found space for a fingerprint sensor in the bottom row, but the flattened key space is visually jarring, and the sensor might be better located in the on/off button on the Fn row.

My touch-typing was slowed only by accidental strays into the column of function keys to the right of the Enter key. I’d get used to this in time, but found it frustrating during the review period.

There are three off-the-shelf specifications available on HP’s UK website at the time of writing:. As noted earlier, the OLED version of the Spectre x360 14 has an estimated battery life of 11.5 hours, while the lower-resolution IPS version will give you up to 17 hours.

A typical three-hour period saw a fully charged battery drop to 68%, on which basis I’d expect many people to be able achieve a day’s work on battery power. SEE:Windows 10 Start menu hacks(TechRepublic Premium).

After one work session, with the battery at 42%, I set it to charge for 45 minutes, after which time the battery was at 75%, having put on a steady 11% every 15 minutes.

The OLED screen on my review unit was superb, and the ability to easily tweak colour gamut settings is a plus point. Beware, though, that selecting OLED over IPS will impact both battery life and your wallet.

HP’s inclusion of its Tilt Pen stylus is welcome, although you’ll need to be careful not to mislay it as there’s no on-chassis housing. Even at the entry level this is a premium-priced laptop, but if you value screen quality and need a versatile 2-in-1 design, then it’s definitely recommended.

The HP Envy X360 is a mid-range series of HP laptops and is a powerhouse of performance. Like any other electronic device, it has its share of issues.

All variants of the series are affected by this issue.

You might also hear the fan spinning briefly, but sometimes there won’t be any noise. Additionally, the charging light may turn on when you plug in the charger.

Sometimes, the problem occurs after a BIOS or OS update. There are also reports of the issue happening when the laptop is connected to an external display through USB-C.

Additionally, the issue may start to occur when the laptop’s battery level drops to a critically low level. Firstly, we will try to power on the HP laptop and will then look into the factors causing the problem.

In such a case, performing a hard reboot of the laptop will resolve the issue. If the charging port has accumulated dust, the charger will fail to establish a proper connection with the laptop, resulting in the battery not charging.

In such a case, cleaning the charging port of the HP laptop will solve the problem. If the power source is not providing the required current to the charger or the charger itself is faulty, the HP Envy laptop will not get charged once its battery is fully drained and hence you will not be able to turn it on.

If the battery is malfunctioning, it will not let you turn on the laptop. In such a case, you can power the laptop on a charger after unplugging the laptop battery from the motherboard.

This can occur if the latest update to the BIOS did not go well. To solve this, reset the laptop’s BIOS to the factory defaults.

Addressing these factors, as discussed below, can help prevent the issue from recurring. To update Windows:

If the laptop is under warranty, you may claim the same. If the laptop is out of warranty, get the laptop checked for a hardware issue.
