You’re going on a date, but where should you go? Don’t worry, we’ll tell you how to choose the best restaurant for a date so you can really impress them! [4]

Have you been restaurant-hopping trying to find that perfect date restaurant. You may not have actually figured out what exactly you wanted in a restaurant, but with this guide, all you need to do is just walk into a restaurant to know if it’s worth your date’s attention.

If you’re worrying so much about how to choose a restaurant for a date, we’re willing to bet this is a first date. A first date that you’re so excited and so nervous for.

The stakes are high, you want them to like you, you want the date to go well, and you want to make a good first impression.

Even the place you choose to take them can feel like a make-or-break decision. Well, let us tell you, it’s not.

But still, knowing that you picked the right restaurant for your date can give you the confidence to walk in with your best foot forward. So, what do you need to consider when picking a restaurant for a date.

To enjoy a good date, you need to be able to communicate easily. Even the slightest bit of yelling out to each other over the music or speaking loud in general is unacceptable.

Loud, distracting music creates a tense atmosphere when you’re trying to enjoy each other’s company. So, Pick a restaurant that has soft music, even if not mushy mood music.

Romantic music can be good, but corny and too sweet when overdone. When you talk, let the soft notes accentuate your conversation, instead of blot it.

As soon as you walk into a restaurant, is there someone to greet you with a warm smile, and escort you to your table. Good.

If you have to pick a date restaurant, the service has to be extremely warm, prompt, and efficient. And don’t forget, waiters don’t just waltz near your table and stand idle in a good restaurant, not unless you’ve called them.

Waiters and the hosts don’t bother you all the time. Service should be impeccable, and they should help you make the right choices.

You don’t want to sit down under the scorching lights of a brightly lit room, waiting to pick flaws in each other.

You should be able to see your food well too. If you’ve noticed in any good romantic movie, the lighting’s always dim and mellow when the couple is having an intimate dinner.

Not only will it be romantic, but the soft, warm glow of a candle can also be a great turn-on.

Or sick on the floor. Not everyone prefers your… What was it… “Your passion for interesting food.” So think twice before heading out to surprise your date-mate with fugu sashimi and takoyaki.

Our pick for romantic food is definitely Italian or Mediterranean, and a glass of wine. If you’re not into eating spaghetti off the same plate, pick any restaurant where the food is easy on the palate and very easy to eat.

You need your date to focus on you while the food goes right in without any interruption. Great food is excellent, but great food that needs attention is bad for a date.

Are you comfortable with the place you’re going out on a date.

Opt for none of them. You want your date to be comfortable, so don’t opt for the stiff one.

Some people may think this is cool and makes you seem popular, but that’s like bringing your date to a place where you hang out all the time. That doesn’t show off your creativity and enthusiasm, it only shows your laziness.

Pick a place both of you would like, one that makes your face brighten up the second you walk in. [Read: 51 warning signs of a bad first date & BIG red flags in the first few dates].

And fairytales wouldn’t be called fairytales if not for the props and the romantic mist and waterfall. So you know the drill.

Candles, music, lighting, décor—all of these things add to the ambiance. You’ll know as soon as you walk through the doors if a restaurant has the right romantic ambiance for you.

Going to a restaurant with a great ambiance can have a great effect on your date. After all, it’s like walking through the doors and stepping into a new world of romance with you.

If you want to have a great time with your date, you need your privacy. Walls and exquisite curtains are mush adders, but that’s not it.

Privacy also includes the chef, managers, and other diners not butting in or craning necks at you all the time. You really don’t have to go looking for private cabins so you can get naughty on your first date.

The tables shouldn’t be too close together so that other diners can eavesdrop on your conversation. It should be well-spaced, and provide a sense of privacy.

The tables should be small enough so either of you can reach out and place your hand in your date’s hand. At the same time, it should feel like a private moment with no nosy people around.

For a good date, always pick a restaurant where privacy is spelled out in bold. The little pincher, eh.

So if you have to pick the restaurant, give it some thought because it’s completely up to what you think. Remember, you can have an amazing date, but if the girl feels awkward about ordering something too pricey, or if the guy feels like he’s spent too much on the date, it’s bound to end with a huff.

Most restaurants that excel in all the finer details come with a price, so it’s all about how deep your pockets are. But not to worry, there are several restaurants that can qualify for the perfect romantic restaurant, and yet, not pinch you too hard.

Now that you know what to look for in a restaurant before you suggest it as a date location, you need to know how to apply that knowledge to actually pick one.

Well, don’t worry. This is how you can find the perfect restaurant.

It might not make sense but bear with us.

And then, compare them.

When you narrow down your choice to three restaurants, rather than all the restaurants and possibilities in your area, it’ll make for an easier decision. Or, if that doesn’t work, roll a die.

If you land on a restaurant that instinctively you’re not happy with, then you know that’s not the right place to go.

Our ideas of the perfect date can be very restricted to a specific image. But is your idea of the perfect date actually in line with the person you’re dating.

If your date is allergic to seafood, don’t take them to a seafood restaurant. If your date is a vegan, don’t take them to a steakhouse.

So, stay open-minded. You might have a better time than you can even imagine.

Maybe you’ve only been to a select few restaurants in your local area, or maybe you’ve been blessed to only have good experiences every time you dine out.

If you think you’ve found the perfect restaurant, and then you see that there are a lot of reviews that claim the service to be poor or the food to be inedible, then maybe keep looking. Sometimes, figuring out on what day your date will be will help you to pick a restaurant.

Also, some restaurants have special deals on food or drink on certain days of the week, so if your pockets are feeling a bit tight, this might have some sway on your restaurant-deciding. This is your first date *we’re assuming*, so you want to really wow your date.

With that said, you should keep them in mind when you’re deciding on a restaurant. Are they coming to the date straight from work.

“You need to set aside time to be together and enjoy your shared activities and hobbies,” says Dr. Jane Greer, New York-based marriage and family therapist and author of What About Me.

“You’re prioritizing your time with your partner so that you can create more intimacy between the two of you. With everything going on in people’s lives, you can wind up flipping into creature comfort and not wanting to bother going out or doing anything.”.

“Dating can be extremely beneficial toward keeping romance alive, and making a practice of going on regular dates can be a great way to jump-start that habit,” says Denise Limongello, a licensed psychotherapist based in Manhattan, who points out that lack of romance is a common reason for breakups or divorce.

“Dating gives you the opportunity to nurture intimacy, practice communication, demonstrate commitment and create a meaningful history together. These elements are foundational to any quality relationship, be it dating or marriage.

What is considered dating? [6]

What does dating actually mean. It’s too bad that there isn’t a rule book when it comes to dating.

But at the same time, our lives would probably be too easy. Without dating, where’s all the fun in analyzing and bitching to friends.

However, for the rest of us, it’s time to learn what is dating and what it isn’t. What is the definition of dating exactly.

To define it simply, dating is a period of time when you’re getting to know someone and trying to figure out whether you think you would like to move toward a relationship with them or not. [Read: Do you have the patience for dating or are you frustrated by it.

It’s a time of fun and frivolities, and it’s a time of no pressure. However, it rarely works out that way.

So, the more people you date, the better the odds that you will finally know what you’re looking for. That way, you don’t waste your time with people who aren’t compatible with you.

You might not have labeled yourself as boyfriend/girlfriend, but at least you both know that neither of you is seeing or sleeping with someone else. There are also different types of dating.

What Does A Kiss On The First Date Mean? [8]

A kiss on the first date can mean that whoever initiates the kiss has romantic intentions toward the other person. Deciding to kiss, accepting a kiss, or kissing someone back could mean that you are reciprocating their feelings.

If you are romantically interested in the person you are on a first date with, a kiss is probably a good sign. It doesn’t take a dating coach to confirm that a kiss typically indicates that some feelings are involved.

Kissing is a classic sign of romantic intention, so if the people who are dating are romantically interested in each other, a kiss on the first date does seem like a good sign. A first date kiss probably means that the date is going well.

If both people are on the same page with what they want to do physically, a first date kiss may be most welcome. If your date isn’t into kissing on the first date, it isn’t necessarily a bad sign.

If you want to kiss a partner, and he or she doesn’t kiss back, respect their boundaries. Consider talking about comfort levels and experience when first dating.

There is no right or wrong answer to kissing on the first date. A first date kiss, or lack of one, could mean so many different things for different couples.

People could have different definitions of a kiss that “counts” anyway, with some people preferring a lighter, friendlier kiss to a French kiss when things are just starting out. If you decide to kiss on the first date, there should be no stigma either way.

Or people dating may not be feeling a romantic connection and end up kissing to confirm their suspicions. If you want your date to kiss you and he or she doesn’t kiss you, maybe they believe you shouldn’t kiss on the first date.

Deciding to kiss could come from a mixture of these internal rules with no real basis, so try not to worry too much about when you decide to kiss. Remember, everyone will give you different advice, but a relationship is between you and the person you care about.

Everyone has different comfort levels with physical affection while dating. If it seems like both people are enjoying themselves and could be comfortable with a date kiss, follow your instincts.

Most people don’t have a dating coach. Trust yourself.

A first date isn’t a guarantee of a first kiss for either person. Some people prefer to see if they have a physical connection immediately, while some others may prefer to wait and see if that connection builds.

Some people will claim there is a science or rule book to follow for dating, but even those who think themselves expert enough to become matchmakers have wildly different formulas and algorithms that still have no guarantees.

One person might have learned from a friend that relationships turn out better when you wait to kiss until the third date. Someone else’s parent might have advised that a good first kiss is necessary before going on more dates.

If you are focused on counting the dates and following the rules, then you may get distracted from what is happening right in front of you. Instead of taking other people’s potentially misguided opinions into account, place your focus on the person you have feelings for.

Notice what makes them laugh and what makes them recoil. This will not only make you more equipped to move at a pace everyone is comfortable with, but it will also allow you to enjoy the present moment.

A couple should sleep together when they both want to and enthusiastic and verbal consent is given from anyone involved. Your own personal answer to this question could change based on different stages in your life, your age, or your feelings toward a specific romantic partner.

The real secret is, there are no rules. If anything, rules and rituals for dating tend to be old fashioned or based on ideas of how men and women should act with no basis and little consideration of modern relationships or different kinds of sexuality.

Every relationship moves at its own pace, and with one person, you may want to wait and sleep together after several dates or even until marriage. In contrast, with another person, you might want to sleep together on the first date.

If things go well with your new relationship, then this could be the start of a long, intimate, personal journey between you and another person. So be sure to enjoy this first phase of getting to know each other and figuring things out together.

Where to go on a first date: 4 crucial points you should not avoid [10]

No worries, in this post we have come up with 15 exciting and fun ideas that would give you an idea about where should you go on your first date so you and your partner can enjoy that special moment in the best possible way. But, before that here are some points that you should keep in mind before planning your first date to have a wonderful experience.

Sometimes, choosing the right place for a date can be really complicated. especially when you are completely new in a relationship and you really don’t know where should you go on a first date.

So, here are some points to keep in mind before going on a date. You don’t need to plan something dramatic or extra, just keep it simple and casual.

I don’t think you should spend that much on your first date. Once there is a clear indication from both sides that you like each other.

Also, make sure the place is not so cheap or bad. Leaving a good impression is also very crucial on your first date.

Safety comes first and you should not compromise with it. Going on a first date with a person you don’t know much can make you nervous, especially when you are a girl.

Choosing a public place is one of the most important things. Not only would it break the awkwardness but also would be a good decision in terms of safety and security.

I know, it may sound immature to you but there is nothing wrong with informing your family and friends about it. If you are planning hiking, trekking, boating, or any other adventurous activity, make sure it’s not too risky or dangerous.

If the place is boring and dull and there is nothing interesting. Then sorry to say it may spoil the vibe and it can be a not-so-pleasant experience for both of you.

That’s why, wherever you go on your first date make sure it’s an interesting place. An active date can also be a great choice for that.

Are you seriously gonna waste your 2-2.5 hours watching a movie with your partner on your first date. I mean, a movie is a great idea but I think it’s not for the first date.

An active date might be a good option for your first meeting. Something that engages you, connects you and helps you to understand each other in a better way.

It’s just my personal opinion, if you and your partner love it, a big thumbs-up.

Theme restaurants are on trend now these days. People are loving it and you would be amazed by the crazy ideas of making your dining interesting.

One of the best things about these restaurants is that they not only give you a new experience with lots of excitement. But also give you so much content for your social media story.

There is much more you can’t even expect for your first date. If you are looking to do something interesting with your partner on your first date and thinking “where should we go on a date” where both of you not only can get to know each other in a more friendly way but also spend some great time doing fun activities together.

You can start with window shopping and then spend some time in a cafe to eat something tasty. From the game section to other interesting activities, there is much more you can do on your first date.

It is always a good way to break the ice and shyness. I’m sure you would feel comfortable with each other.

What about the coffee shop. Find a beautiful coffee shop near you and take your date there.

A cup of hot coffee is enough to start a beautiful conversation with a person, especially when the person is your romantic interest. Initiating a conversation becomes easier with a cup of your favorite coffee.

An amusement park may sound a little crazy if we talk about where to go on a first date but believe me you wouldn’t regret it. An amusement park is not only for kids, it’s for everyone.

It is seen that when we get involved in an activity or something similar to that we automatically establish coordination with that particular person. You don’t even need to push yourself to ask “random” questions.

While enjoying all these rides, don’t forget you are on a date, not on a picnic with your school friends. Making your date feel special is completely your responsibility.

Just make sure both of you are equally into art and culture and love to explore creativity. When it comes to breaking the ice, visiting an art gallery would be helpful for that and give you great topics to initiate the conversation.

The first date is all about knowing each other in a better way so you can decide if it could be a good fit or not. Matching the vibe with your partner is very essential, especially when you are going to share your life with that person.

A movie night, fine dining, and some cool moves in a pub may sound good for some people… and for others, books, arts, nature, a museum, etc are what grabs their attention.

If you love artwork, an art gallery will be a great place for your first date. Who says ice cream is only for kids, I just love it.

Taste the different varieties of ice cream and enjoy it with your partner. I’m sure he/she is gonna love this idea.

A classy and very gentle way to meet someone on your first date, fine dining is also going to be a romantic idea if you are thinking “where should I go for a romantic date”. You can plan a romantic lunch or dinner if you want to keep it simple yet classy.

Tasting mouthwatering cuisine and knowing each other on your first date…. Not only would it help you to engage with each other but leave a good impression about you.

When it comes to where should you go on your first date, a day out in your own city is going to be a great idea. Just discuss it with your partner and let them know to wear comfortable outfits so he/she can also have as much fun as possible.

It’s going to be a full package that your date is gonna love. Make sure, not to get too involved in the city attraction.

Boating can also be an exciting idea for your first date. A little bit romantic, a little bit exciting… you and your beautiful partner, a romantic way to know someone.

Make sure your partner doesn’t have any issues with boating. If he/she has any phobia or it feels like they are not comfortable, just don’t force them.

When it comes to choosing where to go on a first date, a botanical garden might not be an interesting place for some people. But, believe me, If your date is a plant lover then a visit to a botanical garden is going to be a really great idea for your first date.

After all, there is so much to talk about plants and trees. Knowing the interesting species of plants and discussing them would help you to understand each other.

#3: Listen to every word your date says. [11]

“I don’t know what to talk about,” is one of the most common problems my coaching clients bring to me. For some of them, it’s a universal problem, but for most, it’s related to dating.

Let’s dive in.

And I’m talking about things that go a little deeper than what they do for a living, or what they’re favorite food is. What are things you’d like to know about them as a person.

Some examples might include: An easy way to start this list is to write down anything you can think of off the top of your head first.

When you run out of things, make a list of which qualities, values, habits, personality traits, and so on that you’re looking for in a partner. Then create more questions around those.

But the most important thing is to start practicing. And you can practice this with anyone, including your friends and family.

It might feel awkward at first if you’re not used to asking about things like these. But keep doing it as often as you can, and before you know it you’ll be an expert.

Instead, ask follow-up questions to invite the other person to go deeper into what they’re talking about. The first answer people give tends to be a little superficial and less personal.

Examples of follow-ups can include: Check out this article about the everybody’s favorite conversational topic to take these two previous tips to the next level.

Listen to every single word the other person says before you start thinking about what to reply. You see, when you start thinking about what to reply while the other person is talking, two bad things happen:

At least if you follow the next advice. Or the “funny” thing, or the “interesting” thing, or whatever.

Become comfortable with the simple fact that not all parts of a conversation will be great. Some parts will be boring, uninspired, even annoying.

It actually helps create a more emotional experience. And that is important in potentially romantic situations.

Say whatever pops into your head whenever it does. And remember, the more you practice the other techniques in this article, the bigger the chance will be that one of them pop into your head just when you need it.

But in reality, when you talk to someone the way you would if the two of you were already close, they get to see the real you. And that, after all, is who they’ll fall for – not someone who speaks to them as if they’re a stranger.

They mean, “be yourself like you are with me”. However, most people take it to mean “be yourself like you are with strangers.”.

You don’t worry too much about what to say. You’re not afraid of a little silence.

Am I right.

Practice speaking to your dates as casually and openly as you do with the people you’re already the most comfortable with. It will not only make you appear more genuine and let them see who you truly are – but you’ll also more quickly discover if the two of you will get along down the road.

It is perfectly natural for a conversation to have a few silences in it.

And it doesn’t mean it’s a bad conversation. But most people panic when silence happens.

Instead of doing either of those, you can turn a silence into your advantage in two ways: Speaking of smiles and eye-contact, make sure you give your date plenty of both.

And improving your eye-contact is extremely simple. All you have to do is practice making eye-contact while you are speaking.

So that’s what most people do. Which, of course, means that the amount of time we both look into each other’s eyes is short, since we both tend to look elsewhere once we start to talk.

It will both increase the connection, the sexual tension, and convey confidence. While these are 7 of the most important things you can master for better conversations, there is a lot more to learn, of course.

Here’s my collection of dating related articles on this website. And if you want some help improving your confidence on dates, my course The secrets of confidence and communication will help you get there fast.

Dating your kids [13]

Whether you’re a newbie to this whole parenting thing, or a seasoned veteran, or a single parent, we all want to have a close and healthy relationship with our children, young or old. Strengthening relationships and communication with our children can boil down to one thing: spending time with them.

In the long run, you can become best friends. Even when your children are in high school, they will not hesitate to come to you when they need help.

His 10,000-hour rule claims that the key to success in any field is practicing a task for at least 10,000 hours. Could this apply to being a stellar parent.

You can argue that a full time, on-call 24 hours a day parent, puts in waayyy more than 10,000 hours. We’re with our kids all the time (good grief, in just one year there are 8,760 hours.

But just hanging around the basketball court never made Michael Jordan the best basketball player of all time, did it.

Time is one of the most valuable gifts we can give, and, if wasted, we can never get that time back. So often I’ve been in the grocery store with my three crazies crawling all over me and had an elderly person tell me, “Treasure those little ones while you can, they grow up so fast.”.

One of my resolutions this year is to start going on dates with my kids. I think “date” is a very appropriate term.

Why not date our kids. It may seem to be exaggerated in real life, but you should trust the process.

If you can talk easily now, you’ll be able to talk when it really counts. If there is an understanding built up on a regular basis, then the mutual respect will grow higher and higher.

It doesn’t matter what you do, what matters is that you talk, laugh, cry, agree, disagree, and always part ways with an “I love you.” It is important for a single dad or a single mother to spend time with their child. Once a month is a good benchmark for special one-on-one dates with your child.

had this great idea: “[Every month,] each child gets to pick which parent they want to go out with and on their birthday number (if born on the 26th then the 26th is their special day), we go do something they choose to do.

The kids know that they will have their special day the same day every month.”. Decide what works best for your family and your schedule.

Just do them regularly and you can’t go wrong.

Basically, in the teenage years, your children will likely spend more alone time ignoring their families. Facing hard times is common.

Generated by our FB conversation, these date ideas are perfect for toddlers, teens, and even adult children.

Or, cut each idea into a strip and place it in a jar. When it’s time for your date, pull one out and let fate decide.

Here’s to logging in 10,000+ hours of fun, unique individual time with our children. And if you have any other great ideas or success stories, please share.

How to date yourself [14]

Last Updated on January 22, 2023 by Thalia. The most important relationship in your life is the one you have with yourself.

So if you are long overdue a catch-up with your mind, body and soul, I recommend you schedule in a solo date this week. Whether you’re single, loved up or “it’s complicated” spend some quality time with yourself and become your own best friend with these solo date ideas.

Self-love is the love you have for yourself no matter what. It’s learning to not judge yourself and to love yourself unconditionally despite your flaws, imperfections or failures.

We tend to make more effort working on a relationship with a loved one, family member or friend and forget that we also need to care for ourselves. We end up neglecting our own needs in favour of taking care of others and catering to their needs.

So, it’s essential that you continue to cultivate self-love daily and value your own well-being and happiness above everything else. And what better way to show yourself some enriching love than by taking yourself out on a date.

You gain a greater sense of awareness of your likes and dislikes and learn about the things you enjoy doing. Checking in with yourself often helps to strengthen your personality and habits to stop you from being easily influenced by others around you.

Not to mention, you will be reminded just how amazing you are. Dating yourself is probably way easier than dating someone else as the only person you need to please is you.

But it can feel a little daunting getting started, so here are a few tips: When I lived in London, my favourite thing to do at the weekend was to take myself on a date and spend some quality time with myself learning more about myself and what I enjoyed doing without the influence of other people.

And to be perfectly honest with you, this didn’t do anything for my self-esteem and it made me feel slightly lazy. And when I wasn’t in bed, I would be out drinking with friends and probably doing what they preferred to do because of my people-pleasing ways.

My favourite solo date ideas were the ones where I could spend time alone away from my home. Whether that was going on a long walk around London, heading to an art exhibition or booking myself into a matinée show on The West End.

You have more time to think, read, people watch and look into the future. I became my own best friend.

Sure, people may look at you and wonder why you’re by yourself, but once you build up the confidence to be alone, other people’s opinions of you won’t matter. So get comfortable with sitting and eating by yourself.

This will also stop you from looking awkward and worrying about what others think. Without further ado let’s dive right into the best things to do by yourself on a solo date.

There are so many benefits to taking yourself out on dates and spending quality time with yourself. So if you are long overdue a catch up with your mind, body and soul, I hope this list of solo date ideas will inspire you to cultivate the self-love and self-care you deserve.

I can’t wait to hear about your solo date(s) and which ideas from this list sparked joy the most. Until next week,.

Even crazy things feel meant to be, like hearing wedding bells when you’ve only been together a few weeks.

When it is right, it is right. However, our heads will always look out for our hearts and they want to make sure that the love we’ve found lasts forever.

We don’t want to create any unnecessary pressure by rushing down the aisle too early or taking too long to make this commitment, so this leaves us wondering how long to date before marriage.

Throughout this article, you’ll find responses from our Instagram followers about how long they dated before marriage.

We know that relationships can end if the marriage is rushed, just like if the couple waits too long. So is there an exact length that will increase the chance of the marriage being a success.

Unfortunately, there’s no perfect answer.

Everyone was shocked that they married after just a few short weeks but here they are still going strong.

Hank Azaria and Helen Hunt dated for five years before getting hitched but their marriage lasted less than one year.

Most experts recommend waiting six months to two years, while the average length of dating ranges from 2 to 5 years.

First, it’s long enough for the “honeymoon phase” of the dating relationship to wear off.

We all remember what happened with Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries when they married during their honeymoon phase.

Secondly, this allows couples enough time to make important decisions, like where you two will live or how many children, if any, you’d like to have.

Cleary, it’s really important to have these conversations before you get married or you could end up heartbroken. Finally, it’s enough time to seriously start getting to know each other on the most intimate levels.

Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum had a shocking breakup after nine years because of fundamental differences in values.

Unfortunately, there is no perfect dating formula. Even the experts agree every couple is unique.

The right amount of time for one will be completely different for another. You just have to figure out what is right for you.

These considerations include: You should also really ask yourselves: Do you want to get married.

Pressures from family and friends, though well-meaning, can rush couples down the aisle before they are ready.

There’s no perfect dating timeline for a successful marriage, so how long to date is completely up to you and your partner.

Your heart and your head will tell you together when it’s time.

When Should We Send Our Save-the-Dates? [16]

One of the most helpful things you can do for the friends and family you plan to invite to your wedding is to send them save-the-dates. The primary save-the-date purpose is to inform guests of your wedding date and location in advance so they can keep their calendars open on the day of your wedding and, depending on their location, begin making travel arrangements.

For your guests, receiving the wedding save-the-date and adding the dates and the details to their calendars officially begins the countdown to your wedding. Not only that, but sending save-the-dates provides an excellent way to be creative, and set the tone for the wedding and related events.

Save-the-dates are highly recommended if: -You’re having a destination wedding: Guests need extra time to book flights and hotels for weddings in another city or country.

-Your wedding is on a holiday weekend: Prime wedding dates like Labor Day or Memorial Day fill up fast.

-Your wedding date may change: If your venue or details are not yet finalized, save-the-dates provide flexibility if you need to change the date later. -Your guest list is very long: Give guests advance notice that a formal invitation is coming.

Save-the-dates are optional if your wedding is local with under 100 guests on a normal weekend. Informal word-of-mouth notice may suffice.

We’ve found that guidelines for save-the-date timing vary, but a good rule of thumb is to send them six to eight months in advance of your wedding date. We would say, as soon as you’ve nailed when and where you’ll be getting married—and who you want to invite—try to make sending your save-the-dates a high priority.

When you do that, there’s a risk that your notification could get lost, and your event could slip through the cracks. When it’s time to create your save-the-dates, you don’t have to include a lot of information, but you should include your wedding essentials.

You can accomplish this by simply stating, “Invitation to Follow.”. If you have one, it would be helpful to include a link to your wedding website, where your guests can get more details and registration information.

Also, you should not be including RSVP cards: They go in your invitations. Yes.

Even if you’ve spoken, texted, or emailed about your wedding plans with some people, don’t leave anybody out.

As we mentioned, this is one of those times when a wedding save-the-date will be particularly helpful.

The sooner you can give your guests a heads-up that they’ll need to start planning, and budgeting, to attend your wedding the better. There are pros and cons to both paper and digital save-the-date notifications.

You can always take a look at a save-the-date site or two to see what you think. (You can also opt to use a save-the-date app to help you manage responses.

As long as you get your wedding save the date to guests in time for them to make unrushed plans, and your save the date has your date and location information, you’re in good shape. This is another area where there is no correct answer.

On the other hand, save-the-date postcards can be more affordable productions. They can save you time, and using them can save money on postage.

According to loveandlavender.com, the cost to mail a postcard is nearly 40% less than mailing a standard letter in the United States.

Save-the-date booklets allow you to include more details and photos. You can have different pages with information about the wedding venue, accommodation details, weekend timeline, travel information, things to do in the area, and more.

Booklets can be designed with different artistic touches like a ribbon closure or sticker seal.

You can find a number of elegant, luxurious options in a wide range of materials and designs. You also opt for premium cards, specialty cards, and other creative possibilities to suit your tastes.

Also, consider the setting of your photo, including colors and how it will complement (or distract from) the overall vibe you’re aiming for. One common question we hear about save-the-dates is how to approach names.

Generally, the traditional approach would be to list the bride’s name before the groom’s name. You also have the option of listing the names in alphabetical order.

Instead, include your wedding website address. Absolutely.

Your save-the-dates are a fantastic way to showcase the personalities of you and your partner. If laughter and fun are important to you, why not choose save-the-dates that reflect that.

You can weave in a play on words, or shop around for a funny save-the-date template.

Save the Date Card FAQs [17]

While they may not feel as ceremonious as your wedding invitation proper, make no mistake: the save the date card is both a key gesture in the world of wedding etiquette—and can be one of the most fun parts of the planning process. From designing, to strategizing, to ultimately mailing (by post or by email.

While there’s plenty of ways to have fun with save the date cards, there are three main wedding details you needs to get across: It’s still early in the wedding planning game, so there’s no need to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the day’s ins and outs—your main job is to send the signal to loved ones that you want to include them in the celebrations and pass on the basic details, so that they can be there with you.

The answer is: It is. The essence of the save the date card is to share those three core details of your day and to get your wedding on your guests’ radar.

Letting your guests know they will be invited to the wedding. Allowing guests enough time to request time off of work, arrange for childcare, plan long-distance traveling, budget accordingly, etc.

The save the date card is chiefly a matter of courtesy. Think of it this way: Just as you and your partner are pouring time, resources, energy, and care into planning your wedding, your friends and family want to honor those efforts by planning ahead so that they can be there to honor that effort—and your union—with both of you.

Most couples usually sign off their card with a note to guests indicating that they will receive an official wedding invitation later down the line. Traditionally, this is written as “formal invitation to follow.” However, if your personal style or wedding vibe is more casual, you have full license to play with the language.

Lastly, you may consider giving guests a first glimpse of your wedding website by including the URL on your save the date notice. Your wedding website is where guests can go to find:

Accommodation and travel recommendations. Updates and changes to wedding plans as the date approaches.

Other additions, like the story of how you met or wedding FAQs. If you don’t know where to start with curating your wedding website, Zola offers gorgeous, customizable, easy-to-use wedding website templates (plus tips on content and design) to spare you the trouble of trying to create one from scratch.

Staying on top of your guest list can be a stressor all its own (notwithstanding the inevitable onslaught of RSVPs after you’ve sent your official invitations. ), which is why Zola has engineered a free, easy-to-use Guest List Manager.

Net all of your guests’ addresses and emails. Track RSVPs, menu selections, and other polled questions.

Wherever you are in the process of curating your guest list, this Zola tool is there whenever you need it. Depending on the kind of affair you’ll be holding, you should generally adhere to the following time margins for sending your save the date card:

It may seem like a lengthy amount of time, but when you factor in all of the moving parts, this time frame maximizes the possibility that your loved ones will be able to be with you on you and your partner’s special day. There are three pieces of information that will make your save the date card seem visually busy.

The venue: It’s likely that you and your partner haven’t settled on a venue yet, and there’s no rush to figure it out for your save the date card. So long as you know your setting to print on your formal invitation, your guests can wait until then for the specifics.

This gesture may be received as inappropriate or premature, distracting from what is, at the end of the day, a celebration of your relationship. Save the registry information for your wedding website, which will make for a much more seamless experience for your guests.

With so many moving parts, it’s easy to feel pressured to nail down details, even this early in the game.

Zola has done a ton of the work for you with a list of prescreened wedding venues and wedding vendors from all over the country, all given our stamp of approval so there’s no need to carry out background checks or spend hours scrolling through Yelp reviews. All in all, keep it simple—the couple, the location, the date(s), and a succinct message telling guests they can expect a formal invitation later down the line.

Even with something as deceivingly simple as save the date cards, complications are bound to arise.

It may get lost in the shuffle: Not everyone is good at staying on top of their inbox. You’re sure to have a few guests on the list who are prone to more eccentric styles of email maintenance, and it’s likely your save the date might get lost in the shuffle.

It may wind up in the spam folder: Sometimes, for no apparent rhyme or reason, emails sent en masse get banished to the spam folder. This means that some recipients may never see your email.

Your guests may forget about it: The utility of a printed save the date card, other than entreating guests to mark your event on their calendars, is that they’ll have a tangible reminder as the date approaches. Even though your digital save the date is no ordinary email, it nevertheless runs the risk, like all emails, of being forgotten more easily than a message written in print.

We recommend including a URL linking recipients to your wedding website, so that they can view the page before firing off with questions, comments, and marriage advice. Here are a few of the pros that may appeal to some couples considering a digital save the date card:

While an emailed save the date may be a drop in the bucket, it’s understandable that you may want to trim the budget where you can and go for a digital version of this wedding staple. Less time-intensive: If you’re crunched for time, an electronic save the date could save you hours otherwise spent designing, printing, licking envelopes, and manually sending your cards via snail mail.

Informality: Printed save the dates tend to suggest a tenor of formality, but you and your partner may want to host a more low-key, no-frills event. If that’s the case, emailed save the dates are a way of giving your guests a taste of the relaxed tone of your wedding ahead of time.

If this is the case for you and your partner, you may consider emailing your save the date to your long lists of guests—and having a few classic paper save the dates printed for relatives and ultra-close friends who would sincerely love to receive one the old-fashioned way. If you’re preparing to send out your save the dates, you’ve likely established which guests you’re certain you want to include in your celebrations.

Your save the date cards can be your first means of establishing—and politely communicating to your guests—where you stand on additions to your guest list. If you haven’t made any hard and fast rules just yet, err on the side of caution—it’s best not to make promises to guests that you can’t keep.

Unique date ideas [18]

Here we have a list of 200 date ideas, so many that I’m sure you’ll be able to find the perfect date idea you are looking for.

If it is your first date, we’ve also got some first date questions for you. But what about if you’ve been married for 20 years.

And of course we have questions for everyone in between with our questions to ask your boyfriend and questions to ask your girlfriend. Just remember, everyone’s idea of a fun time is different.

But not to worry, whether you and your date are into sports, science, adrenaline, or peace and quiet we’ve got plenty of date ideas to choose from. A great idea is to send this list to your date and have them pick a few they would like to do and go from there.

You can often find them at the local library, a community college, a community center, or even at a craft store or hardware stores. Tons of fun even though it can be a little expensive.

Sure, it won’t last all day, but it’s a fantastic add-on activity. Just remember to keep it fun and not too competitive.

But it’ll definitely be a date that you’ll both remember for a long time. Just make sure that both of you are game, if your partner isn’t into it, don’t pressure them to do it.

Leave the phones in the house or the car. Tell ghost stories, look up at the stars, play cards by flashlight, talk, and enjoy the lack of distractions.

Find one that you think you’ll both find interesting and give it a shot. You can search for meetups in “your town/city” on Google or see what meetup.com has to offer.

Bonus points if you take a dancing class with a type of dancing that you both haven’t tried. Just try not to step on too many toes.

It’s a perfect short date idea if you don’t have a full day to have the date. It’s like hiking plus surprise presents.

There is a bowling alley in almost every town and city. Chances are you haven’t been bowling for a while.

If there is an extreme difference in skills you might not want to keep score, maybe just make it a learning session. This is another short date idea that works really well when you mix it with other date ideas.

Yoga and booze, yoga outside, hot yoga, naked yoga, all kinds of things you can do to make it more interesting. This is another one that is probably best done with couples that are pretty comfortable around each other.

But yeah, it can be a blast to take yoga and remix it and see if you can make it a fun date activity. Another one that can get a little expensive.

These are becoming more and more popular. Check on Google maps to see if one has popped up in your area.

You can have an action-packed, creative, or relaxing date at the VR arcade. This is especially memorable if neither of you has tried a full VR set up.

you can get a decent entry-level metal detector for around $200. But if you calculate the cost of dinner at an upscale restaurant and a movie ticket plus snack for two, it’s not that far off.

Anyways, it can be a fun excuse to walk around and chat and maybe find some cool stuff. Just make sure to take turns.

Running around spraying each other with water and lobbing water balloons can be a great way to have fun and beat the heat. Just make sure to have something lined up for when you finish as this is kind of a short date idea.

Choose a side to cheer for or cheer for opposing teams. Lots of fun and usually quieter than professional sports games.

It’ll give you a lot of chances to talk, and you’ll be able to support a local team.

This one is a bit risky. It can be a lot of fun no matter what your or their skill level is.

A trip to the hospital does not make for a good date. So, choose this date idea with an ounce of caution.

It can get hilarious really quick. And who knows, you might find that you look terrific in an entirely different style than you usually rock.

(Looking at you monopoly.) But as long as you both aren’t taking it too seriously. it can be a blast.

Amusement parks and water parks are always a blast, so if you’ve got one not too far away give it a go. It’s, of course, better if you can do it on a weekday, but if you both work all week, weekends are doable as well.

It won’t be an all-day thing, but it’s great for a short date or as an add-on or back-up date. Some possibilities might be table tennis, bowling, badminton, or something similar.

You don’t want either one of you taking it too seriously. It should be good for a laugh.

But it’s a lot cheaper than buying a sports or luxury car. Just make sure to check the weather before you get the convertible.

It’s probably not a full date idea unless you both REALLY love pinball. But it can be a lot of fun, especially if you try to beat a high score together on the machine or if you try out a bunch of different machines.

Go old school with a compass and map and test both of your ability to find your way to a cool destination. Pretend like there is no power and no charge in your devices.

Break out the candles and pull out some card or board games or whatever you usually do when the power goes out. Have a kids birthday party for yourselves.

Basically, whatever party games and decorations you want to rock. Because why should kids have all the fun.

This one might stretch over a couple of date nights. Basically, you can plan and start your pinata on one date, let it dry, and then on another date, you can decorate it and smash it.

Fill it with whatever fun stuff you want. Maybe even each sneak in some surprises for each other.

Grab a bunch of fruit from the grocery store that you have never eaten. Grab a bunch of snacks/food/drinks from an international food store that you have no idea what they taste like.

You could also film each of your reactions. Dress in your finest and use your best plates, glasses, and silverware and candles and have a fancy fast food meal.

Go super fancy and sophisticated with your burger and fries. You could even pair it with a nice box of wine.

It’s definitely not a typical date idea, but giving blood is an awesome thing to do, so why not do it together.

Pretend to be the tour guide or expert and make up outrageous “facts” about the art or the history of the area for your date. Then switch roles.

Make up histories for the items, buy old photos and make up identities and maybe put them in a photo album, buy an old appliance or machine and try to use it, restore an old piece of furniture. Antique stores have a lot of neat stuff in them.

Plus, you get to guess what some of the old tools/appliances were used for. Lots to talk about and check out in antique stores.

Some places it’s really easy to find fossils, some areas not so much. Look up finding fossils in your area and see where the best places are to look.

So, let your creativity run wild, make a mess of your kitchen, and get decadent with some sweets. Cheap, fun, and good for a laugh.

Whether they fail or succeed, you are both sure to have a good time trying them out. Just make sure to go shopping ahead of time to get all the ingredients and create a playlist of stuff to try.

Sounds like a field trip, but it’s usually pretty entertaining. If nothing else, it’s a date idea that neither of you has tried.

Stay in your neighborhood [19]

As cuffing season approaches, you may be fretting about where to go on your next date. Should you do a museum.

A fancy cocktail bar.

You don’t want to drag someone who hates apple picking all the way to New Jersey, take a vegetarian to a steakhouse, or spend hours waiting in line to get into a scene-y wine bar. These are the kind of things that can ruin a date, especially if you’re just getting to know someone.

You need to bring positive energy and an open mind, too. Assuming you’ve done all that, I’ve called on some prolific daters to share how they choose their date spots.

There are endless advantages to this: If you know a place well, you know when to go, where to sit, and what to order. Also, if you go somewhere enough, you might get to know the staff, which has its perks, especially if you have a nice rapport with them.

I’ve found this dynamic can help add excitement to a boring date and keep a good one moving along in a fun way. Meeting in the middle is lame.

Better to let one person skip the commute, and in exchange, act as host for the night. An added benefit of sticking to your stomping grounds is that you can effortlessly improvise as the night unfolds.

If my date doesn’t follow me, I conclude they lack a sense of childlike wonder. Everyone knows that dim lighting is best for a date.

Emma, a Bushwick local, says her favorite date spot “feels like a little cave.” Just don’t go somewhere that’s so dark you can’t see each other’s faces. Some people like to sit across from each other because you can more easily make eye contact.

The best arrangement is a corner booth, where you sit at a 90-degree angle from one another. That way, you can look out at your kingdom together and make observations and occasionally turn to each other with knowing glances.

When certain friends recommend a bar to me, I have to ask: Are the drinks good, or do you just like the vibe. Nothing will ruin a date faster than a weak cocktail and a reheated empanada that’s still cold in the middle.

There’s a bar I like in Williamsburg whose tiki drinks are way too sugary, but it’s worth going because of the ridiculous décor, which includes sand that covers the entire floor. Fina, a Bed-Stuy local, likes her favorite neighborhood bar because “the music is loud enough so other people can’t hear you talking, but it’s not so loud that you can’t hear each other.” This is the perfect volume.

But you don’t want it to be so quiet that other people can eavesdrop on your conversation. A friend and I were recently having dinner at Dimes Square’s newest wine bar when the server ducked next to our table and whispered, “That guy over there has been here with a new date every night this week.” He was probably trying his best, but this guy chose the wrong spot — it was simply too scene-y.

The wait will be long, the patrons will be making TikToks, and it will be harder to focus on your date. Instead, you want to go somewhere that used to be a scene but has since cooled down.

That doesn’t mean the rules about lighting don’t apply. If you’re walking in the park, you should do it as the sun sets, and if you’re going to a spa, pick the dark one with sensual energy, not the one with fluorescent lighting and grunting Eastern European grandfathers.
