The hit tvN teen romance K-drama True Beauty has been popular since its premiere in 2020. It was tagged as one of the most searched dramas on Twitter and has become a classic in the genre.

Hospital Playlist took Twitter and Netflix by storm. It became the most talked-about and highest-rated medical drama by tvN and the platform.

Cha Eun-woo is a South Korean actor and singer. He first made his acting debut with a minor role in the film My Brilliant Life (2014).

From here, Cha Eun-woo has soared to popularity. He’s played in a variety of dramas and web series throughout his career.

He plays Lee Su-ho in True Beauty, one of the love interests (and main character) of Ju-gyeong. This character is chic, not easily emotive or very open.

Park Yoo-na plays Kang Su-jin in True Beauty, a supporting character who ends up having a lot to do with the drama circling around Ju-gyeong. However, she’s got her own bad things following her, too.

The Webtoon shows how many hoops girls/women will go through just to cover their imperfections with make-up. With the themes of bullying in the Webtoon, it shows how many struggle with being themselves in the double standard of “ugly without make-up” and “fake with make-up.”.

And this just helps make this Webtoon even more loved. Oh, yes.

As someone who read/watched both (and loved both), there are a ton of differences that jump out right away with each. Of course, I won’t spoil too much of either, but be aware that some possible spoilers are coming next.

The drama spans across a few years max—the last year of high school and one or two of university. While the Webtoon has already gone through many years of high school and most of university.

The drama mainly shows what’s happening in high school. But the Webtoon shows high school and the years in university most.

Next, in the drama, Su-ho and Ju-gyeong actually get together. As a slight spoiler, the drama fully dives into the relationship between Su-ho and Ju-gyeong.

We know they both like each other a lot, and they did get really close to being together together. But they haven’t yet.

Lastly, as another slight spoiler, the relationship between Seo-joon and Ju-gyeong is completely different in the drama than the Webtoon. Though Seo-joon is part of the “love triangle” with Ju-gyeong and Su-ho, he never really had a chance with Ju-gyeong.

In the Webtoon, though, it’s a completely different story. They actually dated (#TeamSeojoon—but mostly #TeamJugyeong).

Firstly, no one can compare them. Though the drama is an adaptation of the Webtoon, you don’t need to read the Webtoon to understand the drama.

I’ve seen both of them, but I’m glad I have because there are so many different elements (plot points and side characters) that you get a unique experience with both. So, neither is “better” than the other.

There are many teen romance K-dramas that are well-loved by fans. In 2020, True Beauty blew away fans and became one of Twitter’s most searched dramas based on a popular webtoon.

While fans held onto hop that Ju-kyung would realize Seo-jun’s feelings for her, fate had other plans. Fans know Su-ho left for the United States after his father collapsed and unceremoniously ended his relationship with Ju-kyung.

During that time, Seo-jun’s feelings for Ju-kyung grew stronger, and so did their friendship. But when Su-ho is set to leave Korea again, Seo-jun realizes what he must do.

Fans’ hearts broke seeing Seo-jun miss out on love. Fast forward, and Ju-kyung and Su-jo are together again.

Meanwhile, Seo-jun continues his music career and records the song written by his deceased best friend.

While the K-drama ends prematurely, the True Beauty webtoon storyline continues for much longer. It is not uncommon for K-dramas to be based on webtoons.

When True Beauty aired in 2020, the creator was still working on new chapters for the webtoon. The long-awaited moment finally happened, and the webtoon published its final chapter in 2022.

But the True Beauty webtoon ends differently than the K-drama. In chapter 223 on Webtoon, a long time has passed since the drama.

Near the end of the webtoon, Su-ho fulfills Ju-kyung’s wish of going to the amusement park dressed in school uniforms. But he is nervous about something and has his hand in his pocket.

Back at home, he sees a barefaced Ju-kyung laughing and feels happy. He realizes he has nothing to worry about, hugs her, kisses her, and asks Ju-kyung to marry him.

The webtoon ends with them watching Seo-jun in concert and him explaining he has finally found a way to be happy.

Fans are still waiting for news on a few favorites like The Uncanny Counter and more. But will True Beauty return for a second season.

TvN has not made official reports of a True Beauty Season 2 or plans to continue the K-drama. Since its end, the cast has done other works.

And while never directly said between the two of them, the story does allude that Kyung-seok had a crush on Mi-Rae way back in middle school, long before her transformation, making their coupling all the sweeter.
