Goldie Jeanne Hawn (born November 21, 1945) is an American actress. She rose to fame on the NBC sketch comedy program Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In (1968–1970), before going on to receive the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Cactus Flower (1969).

Hawn appeared in such films as There’s a Girl in My Soup (1970), Butterflies Are Free (1972), The Sugarland Express (1974), Shampoo (1975), Foul Play (1978), Seems Like Old Times (1980), and Private Benjamin (1980), for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing the title role.

Hawn made her return to film with roles in Snatched (2017), The Christmas Chronicles (2018), and The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2020).

Hawn moved to California to dance in a show at Melodyland Theatre, a theater in the round across from Disneyland, joining the chorus of Pal Joey and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying during the June 14 to September 1966 season.

Her next role, which brought her to international attention, was also as a dumb blonde, as one of the regular cast members on the 1968–1973 sketch comedy show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. Hawn often broke out into high-pitched giggles in the middle of a joke, then delivered a polished performance a moment after.

Her Laugh-In persona was parlayed into three popular film appearances in the late 1960s and early 1970s: Cactus Flower, There’s a Girl in My Soup, and Butterflies Are Free.

Other guests were Meredith MacRae, Irwin C. Watson, Rod McKuen, Shirley Bassey and Harpers Bizarre.

After Hawn’s Academy Award win, her film career took off. She starred in a string of above average and successful comedies starting with There’s a Girl in My Soup (1970), $ (1971), and Butterflies Are Free (1972).

She then co-starred in Hal Ashby’s classic satire Shampoo (1975). She also hosted two television specials: Pure Goldie in 1971 and The Goldie Hawn Special in 1978.

On the special she performed show tunes and comedy bits alongside comic legend George Burns, teen matinee idol Shaun Cassidy, television star John Ritter (during his days on Three’s Company), and even the Harlem Globetrotters joined her for a montage. The special later went on to be nominated for a primetime Emmy.

The plot centered around an innocent woman in San Francisco who becomes mixed up in an assassination plot.

In 1972, Hawn recorded and released a solo country LP for Warner Brothers, titled Goldie. It was recorded with the help of Dolly Parton and Buck Owens.

Hawn’s popularity continued into the 1980s, starting with another primetime variety special alongside actress and singer Liza Minnelli, Goldie and Liza Together (1980), which was nominated for four Emmy Awards. In the same year, Hawn took the lead role in Private Benjamin, a comedy she co-produced with her friend Nancy Meyers, who co-wrote the script.

At the age of thirty-nine, Hawn posed for the cover of Playboy’s January 1985 issue and was the subject of the Playboy Interview. Her last film of the 1980s was opposite partner Kurt Russell, for the third time, in the comedy Overboard (1987).

In 1990, she starred in the action comedy Bird on a Wire, a critically panned but commercially successful film that paired Hawn with Mel Gibson. Hawn had mixed success in the early 1990s, with the thriller Deceived (1991), the drama CrissCross, and opposite Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep in Death Becomes Her (both 1992).

Hawn was absent from the screen for four years while caring for her mother, who died of cancer in 1994. Hawn made her entry back into film as producer of the satirical comedy Something to Talk About starring Julia Roberts and Dennis Quaid and made her directorial debut in the television film Hope (1997) starring Christine Lahti and Jena Malone.

Hawn also performed a cover version of the Beatles’ song, “A Hard Day’s Night”, on George Martin’s 1998 album, In My Life.

The film was critically panned and was a box office failure. In 1997, Hawn, along with her co-stars from The First Wives Club, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler, received the Women in Film Crystal Awards.

In 1999, she was awarded Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year.

Budgeted at an estimated US$90 million, the film opened to little notice and grossed only $7 million in its North American theatrical release. In 2002, she starred in The Banger Sisters, opposite Susan Sarandon and Geoffrey Rush, her last live action film for fifteen years.

In 2013, Hawn guest-starred, along with Gordon Ramsay, in an episode of Phineas and Ferb, in which she provided the voice of neighbor Peggy McGee. In 2017, Hawn returned to the big screen for the first time since 2002, co-starring with Amy Schumer in the comedy Snatched, playing mother and daughter.

One of the most iconic and long-lasting couples in Hollywood is Goldie Hawn, 74, and Kurt Russell, 69. The famous on-screen duo has been together for over 35 years.

The two first became acquainted while filming, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, but they weren’t quite ready to start dating yet. “I was 21 and he was 16,” Hawn recalled during a BBC Radio 4 interview.

They were married from 1976 to 1982. She was previously married to Gus Trikonis from 1969 to 1976.

Russell had a son, Boston Russell, 38, by his ex-wife Susan Hubley, who he was married to from 1979 to 1983. He and Hawn welcomed their son, Wyatt Russell, 32, in 1986.

“We all have dinner together quite often,” said Hawn. “My daughter lives down the street from me, so I see her a lot.”.

She most recently was nominated for a Golden Globe for Sia’s controversial movie musical Music. Outside of her active acting career, Hudson has built a fitness and wellness empire.

It’s a wellness brand called INBLOOM, which boasts its own line of plant-based powdered supplements. Hudson also launched a liquor brand in 2019: King St.

The mother of three has also published two lifestyle books, Pretty Happy (2016) and Pretty Fun (2017), and has various social media ambassador deals with brands like Weight Watchers. Hudson has admitted that she spends more time working on her businesses than she does acting.

As for Hawn, she got her start in show business in the 1960s. After being trained in ballet and briefly attending American University, Hawn dropped out of school to pursue an acting, modeling, and dance career.

That show ran for one year, and then she was cast in Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-in. The TV series helped build her popularity (and made her a bit of a sex symbol).

From there, she became a bonafide movie star.

She took a long break from acting after 2002’s Banger Sisters. Her next acting credit was 2017’s Snatched, co-starring Amy Schumer.

Her autobiography, A Lotus Grows in the Mud, was published in 2005. Hawn has been actively philanthropic throughout her career.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Hawn is worth $90 million—$10 million more than her daughter. But at the rate Hudson’s brands grow, she very well may catch up with her mother at some point.

Goldie Hawn is the kind of actress who instantly perks up the screen. With her blonde hair, big blue eyes and bubbly personality, she radiates positivity.

And she doesn’t just act — she’s also a talented singer and dancer, and is known for her long commitment to charitable causes.

Here’s a look back at Goldie’s early days.

Hawn had dance in her DNA, as her mother was also a dance teacher. While she soon became better known as an actress, she told The Guardian “I consider myself more a dancer than anything else,” and has said that dancing informs her joyful outlook on life.

Hawn’s dancing abilities would soon set her on the path to fame. Following her debut role in the short-lived 1967 sitcom Good Morning World, she joined the cast of the sketch comedy show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.

The show, which featured many celebrities of the day as guest stars, and also launched the career of comedy star Lily Tomlin, ran from 1968 to 1973, and was known for its madcap humor and ultra-’60s aesthetic.

She also frequently go-go danced wearing only a bikini and body paint, and in doing so became a ’60s legend who embodied the decade’s colorful, anything-goes spirit.

Hawn’s performance was praised for its expressiveness, and she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress — an impressive achievement for her big-screen debut.

In the 1970s, Goldie Hawn continued her ascent into movie stardom with roles in a variety of decade-defining titles. These included There’s a Girl in My Soup, a 1970 comedy costarring Peter Sellers.

and Shampoo, a 1975 satire of late-’60s sexual politics that also featured Warren Beatty and Julie Christie.

The film was the feature directorial debut of none other than Steven Spielberg, who would, of course, go on to become one of the most popular and acclaimed filmmakers of all time.

While Hawn’s marriage to Hudson also didn’t last, the couple had two children, Oliver Hudson (born in 1976) and Kate Hudson (born in 1979), who would become famous actors themselves.

In this fish out of water story, she was a wealthy woman who unwittingly joined the military. The movie marked the screenplay debut of Nancy Meyers, who’d later become one of modern Hollywood’s best-known female writer/directors with delightful rom-coms like Something’s Gotta Give and The Holiday.

In 1984, Hawn had a role that would be pivotal in her personal life, starring in the World War II period piece Swing Shift. The film may have been a box office flop, but it paired her with Kurt Russell, who she’s been happily partnered with ever since.

While Swing Shift marked the first time sparks flew between Hawn and Russell, it wasn’t actually the first time they met. Russell had an early role in the 1968 live-action Disney movie The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band.

It wasn’t until 15 years later that they reunited onscreen, and the rest is history. As Hawn recalled, “I was 21 and he was 16 and I thought he was adorable but he was much too young.

In 1987, Goldie and Kurt paired up again in Overboard, a frothy rom-com in which she played a wealthy woman who suffers amnesia after falling off her yacht and he played a working-class carpenter. While the film wasn’t well-reviewed, the chemistry between the real-life couple was obvious.

In the ’90s, she carved out a niche for herself acting alongside other mature women, and the decade gave rise to a few of her fan-favorite performances. In Death Becomes Her, a 1992 dark comedy that satirized expectations around female aging, Hawn shared the screen with Meryl Streep and Isabella Rossellini.

While she hasn’t graced our screens for three years, Hawn is always keeping busy. Outside of acting, she’s been a passionate advocate of mindfulness and meditation since the ’70s.

Russell plays Santa Claus himself, who sets out to save Christmas for the children of the world after a sleigh accident throws things off schedule.

While not an amazing effort, The Christmas Chronicles charmed many, earning mostly positive reviews and lots of viewership on Netflix. Hawn appeared in the unadvertised surprise role of Mrs.

If anything, there probably wasn’t enough of Hawn and Russell together in The Christmas Chronicles, but that would soon be rectified. Two years later, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn would return as Santa and Mrs.

This time, through a series of fantastical circumstances, Kate is transported to the North Pole, along with Jack, the son of her mom’s new boyfriend. Once there, they’re taken in by Santa and Mrs.

A malevolent elf named Belsnickel wants to overthrow Santa and steal the ancient religious artifact that powers his famous village, the Star of Bethlehem. The Christmas Chronicles 2 got similarly good reviews and also drew a large audience.
