Compares to series like Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, Garbage Brave, Failure Frame, Nito’s Lazy Foreign World Syndrome, and Suterareta Yuusha No Eiyuutan where a group of students are isekai’d to another world and the main character is ostracized for his weak skills before being betrayed.

This is The Brave with God’s eyes, aka Shingan no Yuusha, also identified here. Makoto is a recluse (hikikomori) who gets summoned to another world.

Makoto is now able to see various things, including the past and future, using this ability to live as an adventurer in a different world. As mentioned in the linked question, he is initially summoned by the goddess of time and space (Astenia), but abandoned.

The scene with his daughter is in chapter 31.

Chapter 31 expands on this and has her stating that he and her mother initially have a bad relationship, so she doesn’t want to say her name or her mother’s name to avoid (further) souring their relationship.

Recently, I’ve been trying to search for manga with this situation which is not played under any particular genre or trope. To be saying that this is totally a Shounen thing would be overkill as I’ve seen many Shoujo manga depicting this kind of circumstance.

Call it a male-domination thing, but I think this is particularly a fetish that I’ve discovered in myself. An important thing I’d like to mention here is that I do not use the word ‘rejected‘ in its literal sense here.

It may be a confession, a hobby or simply to reject the guy’s advances or wanting to have sex. The girl also doesn’t need to be a total bitch.

The main thing to be emphasised here are the words ‘reject‘ and ‘regret‘. The list is in the order of the extent to which the trope is played.

Younger Guy X Older Girl That Treats Him Like A Brother. Not much time left that she realizes that the guy doesn’t like it and the developments continue.

You can read it now or bookmark it and revisit it later when a few more chapters are released. The trope is very lightly touched upon, but the developments do seek further delving into the trope.

The guy she made fun of for confessing despite loving him herself wants to get closer to him again. Will she be able to heal the scars she left him with.

The guy here is very kind and innocent. He is used for his money by a senior girl and he thinks he has a chance, but the girl betrays him and has no intentions of paying him back – and that’s when our main female protagonist arrives, who is none other than an extremely beautiful professor in the college.

Who can forget the anime of the season that despite its name has nothing to do with bunny girls. Mai Sakurajima arc is definitely dwelling in this trope, especially the ending episode.

SEO Kouji’s works fairly deal with this trope at some point in time. For both manga, you can skip to the middle to see the ‘rejection and regret’.

Short chapters dealing with the premise of teacher rejecting the advances of the student she is mutually in love with. But can she restrain herself in the end of the day.

The plot is in the title. Do I need to explain any further.

The twist is that she is unaware of the fact that Ryoutarou is the only one who can see her.

This is a love pentagon where two sides will surely meet together. The developments are however very interesting to watch.

Girl proposes to boy after being told by friends, ready to be shot down immediately. The boy, to her surprise, accepts her confession and they start going out.

I can clearly see the story turning into the favor of the male protagonist. Chizuru will be head-over-heels for him in no time.

I end the list here. I have read many more manga with the described scenario but I can’t remember them for now.

In terms of aesthetics and design, this is Studio Ghibli level imagination. Witch Hat Atelier also has real Diana Wynne Jones energy (which again brings up Ghibli), with one character who feels reminiscent of Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle and a setting reminiscent of that seen in A Charmed Life.

One day, a wizard named Qifrey comes along and helps Coco out of a jam. Coco observes his magic and attempts to copy it.

Qifrey promises Coco that there may be a way to restore her mother, but she will need to become an apprentice at his atelier in order to find it. So begins a fantastical journey filled with unique magic systems, charming and eclectic characters, beautiful landscapes, and exciting events.

This fantasy manga follows Frieren as she continues to wander, watch the world change around her, say goodbye to friends, gain an apprentice, watch her grow up, and learn about life ever so slowly. After Himmel the hero grows old and dies, Frieren realises that she knew so little about him.

She begins to develop regrets, and she wants to live differently, and gradually she finds a new quest. a new purpose for her life moving forward.

In the realm of fantasy manga, The Girl from the Other Side is a unique and beautiful medieval-style fairy tale. This bittersweet manga by Nagabe tells the story of a girl and a monster who live alone together in a cottage.

The story goes that the Outsiders share the curse of the God of Darkness, and are able to spread their curse with a single touch (and so the monster never touches little Shiva). The Insiders remain safe behind high walls, and Shiva remains on the Outsider, waiting for her aunt to return and collect her.

This is “a tranquil fairy tale about those human and inhuman”, but what human really means is what The Girl from the Other Side asks and explores. Gorgeously drawn, with beautiful environmental storytelling and a setting that perfectly blends with its fairy tale themes and narrative tropes, this is a magical and quiet fantasy manga.

It’s an odd and alluring concept for a fantasy manga, perfectly enhanced by Haruko Ichikawa’s elegant, borderline surreal, minimalist, and frankly beautiful art style.

Deep blacks, expansive white spaces, a lack of straight lines, fluid motion, and a beautiful use of symmetry make Land of the Lustrous a truly beautiful fantasy manga. The story begins with one lustrous, Phos, being dismayed at her own uselessness.

Eventually, Phos is tasked with cataloguing the natural history of their world, but Phos isn’t entirely sure what this means. Across the first few chapters of Land of the Lustrous, we follows.

Fantasy is a well-known genre that doesn’t need an introduction in any kind of media. Any person can enjoy it and easily get sucked into a new world.

This Girl is a Little Wild, also known as The Sword and the Dress, sees a beautiful romance develop, but it’s also incredibly funny. Fans also love it for its complex characters.

But with the appearance of a mysterious new girl, everything has fallen apart: the Emperor has turned his back, and Aristia’s miserable life as a lower queen is cut short by death. However a second chance to change her fate sees her reborn ‒to 7 years earlier.

He is sent to a famed school of sorcery to protect Dio Varus, the son of Duke Dayner Artian, as well as to figure out why everyone calls his son a monster. While undercover, Rood also discovers there is more occurring at the school than it appears.

Although it was highly acclaimed during its publication, it was unfortunately discontinued before it could finish. However, some fans still have hope that it will return.

Also known as [R.I.P] Rest In Peace, Deceased’s Soul follows Jeongto and Isaeng, two childhood friends who were raised in two entirely different environments — a hospital and a funeral home. Despite them being very close, after ten years, they become estranged as they grow up for a simple reason: one must lead a soul to the afterlife, and the other attempts to revive them before they can die.

This fantasy manhwa also has a complex lore involving the Kings of Hell and even reincarnations. Kim Sarae’s Magician follows Ethermask, a man who is looking for a scripture, Iremi, a young woman who is only tagging along, and Enzu, a young boy who seeks revenge against his father’s murderer.

Magician doesn’t have the best art in comparison to many other series, but readers shouldn’t let this fool them. This manhwa is a perfect mix of fantasy, comedy, and drama, all in a medieval setting.

Solo Leveling follows the story of Sung Jin-Woo, the weakest hunter on his quest to become the strongest S-Rank hunter. Ordinary people in Solo Leveling gain the power to fight monsters, though protagonist Sung Jin-Woo is the world’s weakest.

After a mission gone wrong, he wakes up in the hospital with a quest log he has to complete, or else. Solo Leveling is known for both its story and gorgeous art, detailing Jin-Woo’s journey as he levels from the weakest hero out there to one of the strongest.

When Calliope’s family is murdered, and her life ends because of an ongoing war, she travels back in time to when she was born. Taking this opportunity, she attempts to figure out the mystery of wh.

Kannazuki no Miko (神無月の巫女, lit. Priestesses of the Kannazuki) is a Japanese yuri manga series created by Kaishaku.

The 14-chapter series was serialized by Kadokawa Shoten in the monthly Shōnen Ace magazine from 2004 to 2005.

A drama CD, based on the anime version, was released on November 25, 2004 by Geneon. In North America the manga was licensed by Tokyopop and the anime by Geneon USA.

In 2010, the anime aired on the Anime Network as Destiny of the Shrine Maiden.

Himeko Kurusugawa and Chikane Himemiya are two high-school girls at the prestigious Ototachibana Academy in the fictional Japanese town of Mahoroba. They are also the reincarnations of the solar and lunar mikos.

The Orochi awakens on the first day of October (Kannazuki, “the godless month,” in the traditional Japanese lunar calendar), Himeko and Chikane’s shared birthday. The first Orochi who tries to kill one of the mikos is Sōma Ōgami, Himeko’s childhood friend (who is in love with her).

The mikos must awaken Ame no Murakumo to combat the threat, while Sōma repels the Orochi’s efforts to kill them.

Like its counterpart in Japanese mythology, the Orochi in Kannazuki no Miko has eight heads (its eight disciples, also known as Orochi (オロチ衆, orochi shū)). Each has a mecha, an “other self” for the Orochi’s body, with its spirit appearing as a bottomless vortex of darkness.

Each disciple has exaggerated individual characteristics. Orochi gave its followers great physical strength and endurance, a limited capacity for teleportation and levitation and an individual power (or weapon).

however, Orochi severely punishes those who resist it. The god chooses its followers from those who have experienced great pain in their lives and have surrendered to despair.

They are uncooperative, and do not coordinate attacks on the miko until halfway through the series. By the series’ end the followers are restored, with no memory of their association with Yamata no Orochi.

The Kannazuki no Miko manga, written by the manga group Kaishaku, was first serialized in the Japanese magazine Shōnen Ace (published by Kadokawa Shoten) in 2004. The series’ 14 chapters were bound in two tankōbon volumes.

The anime adaptation was produced by Geneon Entertainment and animated by TNK. It was directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa, with music by Mina Kubota and character designs by Maki Fujii.

The insert song, “Suppuration -core-” (also sung by Kotoko), was used in episode five.

The episodes were released on six DVDs from December 22, 2004 to May 25, 2005. It was licensed in North America by Geneon USA, which released the series on three DVDs in 2006.

the latter reissued the series in a DVD box set on August 25, 2009. It is licensed in France by Dybex, in Poland by Vision Film Distribution and in Taiwan by Proware Multimedia.

On November 25, 2004, Kannazuki no Miko drama CD was released in Japan by Geneon, based on the anime version of Kannazuki no Miko. The series was presented on an Internet radio program, RADIO Kannazuki (RADIO神無月), on i-revo TE-A room from October 2004 to March 2005.

Kannazuki no Miko received mixed reviews. Carlo Santos of Anime News Network criticized volume one of the manga, describing it as “less than the sum of its parts,” and the second volume as “overblown” and melodramatic, with too much “[a]ngst, rage and sentimentality”.

In her review of the series, Erica Friedman (president of Yuricon) criticized the story for its rape scene and its manga ending (in which Chikane and Himeko are reincarnated as sisters and lovers), considering it poorly written. She asks why, “if both [Sōma] and Chikane love Himeko so much, do they allow her to be bullied, outcast and victimized instead of stepping up and claiming their friendship publicly.

the story actually revolves around “the love triangle and Himeko’s victimization by herself and the people who profess to love her”. Friedman said, “Tokyopop’s team did as good a job with the material as they could.

I applaud them for that. It’s not as easy as they made it look.” In her volume two review, she said Tokyopop did a “very superior job with this series”.

Chris Beveridge reviewed the anime series. He described the first episodes as having with a lot of promise which is “beautifully orchestrated” and “enticing” in terms of its animation and pacing.

Jyu-Oh-Sei (Japanese: 獣王星, Hepburn: Jū Ō Sei, lit. “Planet of the Beast King”) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Natsumi Itsuki.

Several chapters of the series were serialized in Hakusensha’s other bi-monthly shōjo manga magazine, Melody. The chapters released were then collected into five tankōbon volumes and later re-released into three kanzenban volumes.

An 11-episode anime adaptation was animated by Bones and premiered on April 13, 2006 in Japan as part of Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block. On May 2, 2009, the series made its North American television debut on the Funimation Channel.

The series deals with the adventures of twins Thor and Rai, who live on space colony Juno, a planet resembling earth, until they are abandoned and sent to Chimaera, a secret planet dominated by extreme weather patterns which is used as a penal colony.

Two 11-year-old twins, Thor and Rai, live on the space colony Juno until they come home to find their parents have been murdered. The unknown assassins drop Thor and Rai on Chimaera, a secret planet used as a penal colony.

Thor proceeds to the Ochre Ring where he gets swept up into that Ring’s politics and winds up defeating its Top, bringing him closer to becoming the Beast King. After several years Thor faces off with Zagi who has violently taken over the Blanc ring and is determined to rule over and change Chimaeran society.

When Thor finally meets Odin, the President of Juno, the mystery of Thor’s and Chimaera’s secret origins are revealed. Odin tells Thor he is a genetically engineered human created from the DNA of all the previous Beast Kings.

Thor’s genes adapt to survive under any circumstances, so they mimicked Eve’s physical appearance. This is the reason Thor appeared to be Rai’s twin.

Finally, Odin reveals a long-kept secret: that Earth was destroyed by an asteroid collision long ago, and humanity cannot return there, so they must adapt to survive in the Balkan Star System. However, Odin’s plans involve dissecting Thor in order to mass-produce more genetically engineered humans capable of surviving in Balkan, and terraforming Chimaera, which would kill the planet’s current inhabitants.

Thor returns to Chimaera to live with Chen, Zagi and the rest of the planet’s inhabitants.

He and Chen appear to be together. He adopts an orphan girl they both found, naming her “Tiz”, saying it means hope.

A secret planet used as a penal colony where day and night last 181 days each and the planet is marked by extreme weather patterns. Plants dominate the planet’s ecosystem.

The violent seasonal bloom of muses, where the plants erupt from deep below the surface to spread their canopies to the sun, are the main source of water for Chimerans. most of the water lies deep in the planet’s crust.

The calypto sap erupts from punctures and inhalation can cause death. Of all the plants a verasoma is the most ferocious and formidable, a mobile carnivorous plant.

Even when mortally wounded its death throes are likely to kill anything around it.

These Rings, the Ochre Ring, Sun Ring, Blanc Ring, and Noire Ring, are based on skin color. A group of outcast children called Yado are led by Zagi with no affiliation to any ring.

Hierarchy is maintained by winning any challenges to the position in a duel. If an individual successfully defeats the Top of all four rings they become the “Beast King” who gets to be pardoned of their crimes and allowed to reside on Hecate.

3 volumes of the manga have been released in Tankōbon format on the following release dates:. Jyu-Oh-Sei has been adapted into an anime which consists of 11 episodes, which began airing in Japan on April 13, 2006.

The DVD release of “Jyu-Oh-Sei” began on July 28, 2006. The Japanese release was sold by Asmik Ace, consisting of a total of four volumes, with volumes including interviews with the original Japanese cast and cover artwork drawn by the character designer and director.

Although isekai manga have had their share of ups and downs, the genre’s also been responsible for some classic series over the years. Fans of the genre enjoy isekai because they offer interesting fantasy settings while remaining relatable through their grounded protagonists.

Conversely, it’s also a popular format to see adaptations of popular material retold through. Despite the reputation some of these isekai series have, many isekai manga are quality reads and are often better than their anime adaptations.

While many of them aren’t terribly good, many others are classics fans will find worth their time. This list has been updated to add more great isekai manga and offer more information about these awesome series.

This has made many weary of isekai as a whole and question its quality, especially as more manga, light novels, and anime are made in the isekai mold. Nevertheless, there are still several worthy entries in the genre, with some of them even jumpstarting certain subgenres within isekai.

Not every isekai manga on a grossly overpowered protagonist who hoards the glory for himself. In Wise Man’s Grandchild, the protagonist does the exact opposite.

After years of training, Shin exceeds even his grandfather in every way possible and begins attending high school. There, he makes a number of new friends and begins teaching them his absurd skills as well.

Rather than having the protagonist do everything, it’s fun watching Shin train those around him to make them competent as well. The series also excels at writing several believable romances, giving the reader characters to care about outside the lead.

7.55/10. Anime-Planet.

I Got A New Skill embraces the idea of a “new game plus” isekai manga. The lead protagonist, Ed, starts at the end of his story.

After revisiting the first world he left, he learns the Demon King there took over, inspiring him to start over from zero. While the overpowered protagonist isn’t anything new, I Got A New Skill is still a good isekai manga thanks to its unique premise.

The artist’s offbeat sense of humor and the quirky characters also give even experienced isekai readers a reason to check the series out. My Anime List.

The Weakest Tamer follows a young child named Ivy, who seems to have exceptionally weak magical powers and talents. Her taming ability is so weak she’s only able to tame a single transparent slime, who becomes her main ally on her journey.

Tonally, it’s not all comedy or grim and edgy, but often sad and bittersweet. It’s impossible not to root for Ivy as she struggles to make a place for herself in the world.

7.62/10. Anime-Planet.

Many isekai manga feature their lead being reincarnated into their favorite games. Trapped in a Dating Sim though has Leon Fou Bartfort being reincarnated into a game he had no interest in at all — an otome game where women hold all the power while most men hold none.

Leon is crafty and unafraid to manipulate situations around him to benefit him and his friends. He’s also all too willing to rub his victories in the face of everyone who looks down on him without ever being cruel.

7.67/10. Anime-Planet.

Isekai that trade intense combat scenes for slice-of-life scenes are becoming more common these days, and I Got Caught Up In A Hero’s Summons is another such manga. As hinted in the name, Kaito Miyama is summoned to a world that’s completely at peace, and he’s been given a year to explore this peaceful planet at his leisure.

It’s worth the time to check out for people who don’t mind trading the edgelord hero for a harem protagonist. My Anime List.

Spear Hero’s character is one of the most annoying characters in the already controversial The Rising of the Shield Hero series, yet Reprise of the Spear Hero gets fans to resonate with him by keeping the story from his perspective. In the world of this isekai manga, Motoyasu loses his life in battle and is sent back to the very first day he was summoned.

As wrong as it feels to see the Shield Hero and Spear Hero working together, Reprise of the Spear Hero is a cute alternate universe series that super-fans will find easy to get into. My Anime List.

My Next Life As A Villainess Side Story: On The Verge Of Doom. raises the stakes to levels the original was never able to achieve.

Reborn as a Space Mercenary has something almost no other isekai manga series has: outer space. The series begins with its lead transported into a universe that resembles his favorite online game, operating a powerful starship that makes fighting pirates a breeze.

Reborn as a Space Mercenary is exactly the manga needed for fans who want a break from all the classic isekai manga fantasy tropes. The manga’s still got the usual harem shenanigans for Satou, but it isn’t afraid to get serious for a few chapters or try out some creative sci-fi ideas to keep fans invested long-term.

Mushoku Tensei is a sweeping isekai epic full of character development and rich worldbuilding that no fan will want to miss out on. Rudeus Greyrat has been reincarnated into another world after a life full of regret in his old one.

Taking destiny into his own hands, Rudeus Greyrat decides to try and live life to the fullest with his second chance. Mushoku Tensei is considered one of the best isekai manga ever, namely due to how well-written it is.

3.85/5. Marchen Awakens Romance is creator Nobuyuki Anzai’s next series after the end of the successful battle shonen Flame of Recca.

The series’ narrative elements make it closer to a traditional battle shonen like Shaman King than an isekai manga. Given the task ahead of him, Ginta needs more than strength to fight the Chess Army, a group of sadistic warriors who want to take over the world.

The battles are well-planned, the characters stand out from modern shonen series, and the series doesn’t wear out its welcome at less than 200 chapters. My Anime List.

Kyle Lenard and his companions managed to defeat the demon lord but with great sacrifice. Kyle becomes the sole survivor since all his friends were lost in the battle.

In his last moments, Kyle activates an artifact, giving him a second chance to save his friends and the world. Rather than presenting Kyle as a loner, TsuyokuteNew Saga presents him as someone who wants to make as many connections as possible with others to build his influence.
