Is this like the newer box at Brandon and California, where the hatch only opens about an inch and there’s no explanation/indication that it’s a new mail-fishing countermeasure. Before I researched it, I wondered if there was some sort of “do not use” lock on the box I wanted to put an outgoing envelope in.

I’d imagine a smaller box requires more frequent emptying, meaning less mail would be stolen (also stores less mail). They also seem like they would be cheaper to replace since it’s obviously just going to be stolen again in the future anyway.

I went by the Westwood Post Office last weekend on Sunday afternoon and they had the X-LARGE mail box out front & It was OVERFLOWING with mail pieces popping out of it. If the Post Office can’t maintain the larger mailbox and maintain their scheduled Pick-Up times (they obviously missed a weekend pick up time), what’s gonna happen with a small box.

I encountered the overflowing (large) box on a Sunday afternoon too. It was the Sunday before taxes were due.

It didn’t help when they made the change to lock the lobby on Sundays.

I remember on my way to work I had taken in a few letters for my grandmother who specifically wanted them in there for the 12:30 pick up. I lost my wallet and thought that I had mistakenly thrown it in with the mail because I set it on the passenger seat sometimes.I went back down there at 4:00 p.m.

The “overflowing” problem is more than likely due to people “dropping” larger than capable soft packages that get lodged in the “letter sized” collection box. So it’s not necessarily the incompetence of the post office but more likely user error of the general public who are too inconvenienced to drop of said packages in the large opening collection box inside or informing the front clerks of a larger prepaid outgoing package.

I am 90 years old with mobility issues and was unable to access the Westwood box Only place now to mail my letters is from my own mail box and that risks theft. If the postmark date had been important, that card would have been postmarked a day later than it was mailed. So, now I always park and run my letters inside.

The US Postal Service will stop taking letter collection boxes off streets in Western states following accusations the removals would further limit some voters ability to send back mail-in ballots.

In a statement Friday night, Rod Spurgeon – a USPS spokesperson for the service’s the Western region – told CNN that the service will stop the removal of letter collection boxes in 16 states and parts of two others until after the election.

The USPS recognizes the need for small businesses to provide this service. Hence, they offer weekend delivery options.

The 13News investigation did not test only delivery times. we also tested how well the Post Office keeps track of your stuff.

In each of the 30 boxes and padded envelopes mailed during our test, 13News included our own GPS tracking device so we could track it too. Those trackers showed four of the 30 packages were tracked improperly.

Petersburg, Fla., was located in Ybor City, Fla., on the morning of October 30. Ybor City is in Tampa, just 15 miles from the package’s delivery address.

Worth, Tex., which is more than 1,100 miles from its final destination. The discrepancy helps explain why the USPS needed three more days to deliver the package, which showed up later than promised.

One of our test packages was mailed from a Sacramento, Calif., Post Office on November 8. A month later, USPS tracking shows that package is still in Sacramento, even though it is not.

Asked about the postal service’s tracking system discrepancies, USPS spokeswoman Susan Wright told 13News: “[W]hile much of the Postal Service processing environment is completely automated, some parts still require human involvement. Some of those are scanning operations on the mail processing floor and sometimes there are errors.”.

Waiting around for mail or packages you are expecting isn’t ever fun.

Thankfully, tracking information lets us all watch our packages as they move through the USPS system. And, if most of us were totally honest, we all admit that we track our packages a lot more often than we probably should.

At the same time, though, wouldn’t it be nice to know exactly when your packages were going to arrive from the USPS.

We’re not just talking about knowing the day that they are scheduled for delivery, either.

The day and the time that our mail and packages are going to arrive.

Even with advanced tracking information from the USPS and other shipping partners.

Let’s find out right now.

To put it bluntly, as of right now there is no way to know EXACTLY when your package is going to arrive – at least not with any information available directly from the folks at the USPS, anyway.

But there are a bunch of different things that can impact delivery time and throw things off schedule – though we dig a little deeper into that in just a moment.

As of late 2020, the USPS has normal “retail” business hours of between 9 AM and 7 PM nationwide – and that’s local time.

The USPS also allows for Passport Appointment hours between 10 AM and 5 PM on normal business days, again local time.

As far as delivery times are concerned, you can generally expect your mail to be delivered anywhere between 7 AM and 8 PM (local time) if the mail carriers are out on their routes.

Some locations are open a little earlier than that and others stay open a bit later, but as a general rule you can expect this “two and one” kind of principal to be followed pretty much across the board.

Any different number of things can significantly impact overall delivery times, some of them totally and completely out of your or the USPS control.

There is a Post Office creed, after all, and a big part of that is delivering the mail regardless of whether or not the sun is shining bright in a clear blue sky or if a storm is barreling down upon a mail carrier.

Of course, inclement weather is always going to throw a monkey wrench into a traditional USPS infrastructure set up – and that’s going to delay shipping significantly.

We expect that.

If mail carrying personnel – or any of the USPS infrastructure support workers – are coming down with an illness and aren’t able to faithfully discharge their duties the staff is going to be shorthanded, and that’s going to have an impact for sure.

– and there’s a good chance that your mail is going to be slowed down somewhere along the way.

Another reason that your mail likely isn’t getting to you at the exact same time every day, but instead in the same ballpark, has to do with overall mail piece, package, and parcel volume.

If, on the other hand, that mail truck is absolutely filled to the gills with heavy boxes and packages (like around Christmas, for example) the chances are pretty good you’re going to be getting your mail a lot later on in the day.

All in all, though, you should be able to expect your mail to arrive on a pretty consistent schedule day in and day out, usually ballpark them things within an hour (roughly) or so.

There are a couple of days where the mail simply isn’t going to be delivered, and it’s important that you are aware of these “mail holidays” if you’re expecting packages or parcels.

We are talking about things like Christmas, New Year’s, Independence Day, Veterans Day, etc. If there is a bank holiday or if there’s a government holiday the odds are very good that the USPS is going to be closed, too.

As a general rule you’re also going to have no mail delivered to you personally on Sundays.

Priority Mail packages as well as Amazon packages are going to be pushed through the USPS system for delivery on Sundays as part of the contract with customers and Amazon themselves.

This is done to handle the overwhelming flood and crush of mail that comes pouring out during the holiday season, and it’s a big part of why so many Christmases are successful – especially with the popularity of online shopping booming in the last few years.

The weeks between Black Friday (right after Thanksgiving) and Christmas Eve are notorious for being the most jampacked times to try and get things sent through the mail.

There are a couple of other times throughout the year (Mother’s Day, for example) where the USPS is bogged down and delayed because of the volume of mail that they have to push through the same infrastructure that handles all “regular” mail at the same time.

If you order within this timeline the odds are pretty good that you are going to see your packages and parcels delayed at least a little bit.

It would be nice to guarantee that your USPS packages, parcels, and every day mail get delivered at the exact same time every single day, but pulling that off is rather challenging.

Priority Mail is going to guarantee delivery within 3 to 5 business days, usually ending up even faster than that.

There are other services that you can take advantage of that further dial in the timeline of delivery.

That gives you a bit more granular control over your deliveries, anyway, and can be useful in a pinch.

The sooner you want your mail delivered, the more you’re going to have to pay (but that’s no surprise).

At the end of the day, you may be looking for a modern mailbox solution that you have a little more control over than what you’re getting from the USPS.

But weekend shipping isn’t quite the same as shipping during the week. Different carriers have different rules and capabilities regarding Saturday and Sunday delivery.

For Shippo users, the rules for shipping on a Saturday with UPS depend on what Shippo product you are using. For web-app users, Saturday shipping is somewhat limited.

This goes for all UPS services. However, UPS® Ground shipments can arrive at customers’ doorsteps on a Saturday* under certain conditions.

Air and International packages are subject to a processing fee on Saturdays, since they are advanced in the UPS network for earlier day of the week delivery. UPS Access Points® are retail locations such as grocery stores or gas stations that have partnered with UPS to accept shipments and returns if they come with prepaid labels.

Drop off pre-labeled packages at nearby stores including The UPS Store®, Michaels, CVS, Advance Auto Parts, and local independent retailers. However, UPS does offer weekend pickup if you don’t have time to make it to any of these locations over the weekend.

FedEx offers plenty of options for dropping off packages on the weekends. You can choose from 1 of thousands of FedEx Offices, FedEx Ship Centers, Drop Boxes, or Authorized Ship Centers.

Hours of operation will vary depending on the location but some methods, such as drop boxes, are open 24 hours a day. Regarding package pickup on the weekend, Saturday is the only day offered and is only for specific services.

Express package services such as FedEx 2nd day, FedEx International First, FedEx International Priority, and several express and international freight services. Saturday pickup for freight services come with a $210 charge per shipment, while US express services come with a fee of $16 per package and international services come with a fee of $16 per shipment.
