Bleach has a rather interesting concept of life and death. There are various races in the series such as humans, Soul Reapers, hollows and Quincy.

There are also those whose sins land them in hell. Then there are Soul Reapers who are mostly deceased beings, but because their deaths are so impactful on the human world, they become defenders against hollows and demons attacking the living.

The noble families in the Soul Society continue their bloodline by giving birth to more powerful souls who later become Soul Reapers. For example, Byakuya Kuchiki was never a human since he was born and raised in the Soul Society, and his powers were so great that he became a fearsome squad captain.

Except for the fact that they can live for centuries or even millennia, Soul Reapers are not that different from mortals since they can also bleed and die. However, since they are already souls, they cannot return to the Soul Society and start the cycle anew.

Every human who successfully passes on to the Soul Society is sent to the Rukon District — a massive residential area where all souls live in the afterlife. The Soul Society needs to maintain the balance between both worlds, so the human world also has just as many souls as there are in the Soul Society.

If a hollow dies at the hands of a Soul Reaper, it will enter the Soul Society, completing the cycle. “Konso” is a sacred ritual performed by the Soul Reapers to help souls “cross over” between different worlds.

As soon as the hilt touches the forehead of the lost soul, the soul will sink into the ground in a pool of blue light, and their “passing on” is symbolized by Jigokucho (Hell Butterfly). However, whenever a Quincy destroys a soul or defeats a hollow, that soul is completely erased from existence.

Unlike souls, Soul Reapers feel hunger and have a high amount of spirit energy. They either develop the spirit energy over time or are simply born with it.

In the manga ending, both Szayelaporo and the Head Captain Shunsui Kyoraku explain that when a member of Soul Society dies, their spirit energy is reabsorbed into Soul Society itself. As fans know by now, the Soul Society is completely created by “Reishi (spirit particles).” Uryu is able to defeat Mayuri in the “Soul Society” arc by absorbing the Reishi from their surroundings.

Because the Reishi comprising their bodies are too dense with Reiatsu (spirit energy), the captains are placed in the upper three tiers of the Spirit Class. Their spirit energy cannot naturally break down and be reabsorbed into the Soul Society unless there are external forces involved — or at least, that’s what the Soul Society believes.

Therefore, a ceremony called “Konso Reisai,” which translates to “Soul Burial Ceremony Ritual,” is performed to cast the deceased captains into Hell. The ceremony is performed under the deception of helping the potent Reishi break down and be naturally absorbed into the Soul Society.

Konso Reisai is a unique version of Konso. Before this ritual is performed, the squad captains and lieutenants perform the “Jogimen Reibaku,” or “Prefacing Ceremonial Surface of Spiritual Arrest.” During this ritual, they assemble in the human world to capture the hollow.

The current captains and lieutenants capture a powerful Hollow and purify it in front of the grave of the deceased captain. In the manga ending, once a hollow is purified in front of Jushiro Ukitake’s grave, he is successfully cast into hell 12 after his death.

During the ritual, Ichigo is forced to kill Jihoku no Gaki in the human world. Jigoku no Gaki are giant hollows that originate from hell and unknowingly complete the ceremony.

However, Ukitake’s newfound powers allow him to impale Granz with his now-enlarged Sogyo no Kotowari and pull him back through the Gates of Hell.

Soul Reapers, also recognized as shinigami, are known to be one of the most influential beings in the Bleach universe. Moreover, these shinigami are hailed as heroes because they help souls to pass on to the afterlife.

However, many fans kept on wondering what happens to them and where they end up after dying. Here is everything you need to know.

Captain-class soul reapers on the other hand are banished into Hell. Moreover, when they are reincarnated as humans they begin a new life and have no memories of their time as a soul reaper.

Hence, in order to prevent these strong Reishis from lingering, deceased captains are banished to Hell by performing the Konso Reisai ceremony.

They live for centuries with some even crossing the benchmark of thousand years. For instance, the age of Captain-Commander Yamamoto is estimated to be around 2100 years.

Bleach: Thousand Years Blood War is the final arc of the Bleach franchise. This particularly centers around Yhwach, Quincies’ leader, declaring war against the Soul Society.

In Bleach, the Shinigami or Soul Reapers are balancers of the universe. Their role is to purify Hollows that conduct evil deeds in the world.

But is that all there is to being a Soul Reaper.

For starters, they must have high Reiryoku and Reishi bodies. Those who do not have spiritual powers cannot see souls, while others have exceptional spiritual energy.

Since they have their duties, they also receive salaries. Moreover, they can get a higher amount the more Hollows they defeat.

Soul Reapers are special and should have abilities to combat Hollows. They have enhanced endurance, immense durability, a high level of Spiritual Power, and their own unique weapon.

So, does that mean that they can die too.

But since they live longer, some fans might assume they cannot die. However, this is not the case.

There are also instances when a Hollow eats a Soul Reaper, or when a Quincy kills them. The advantage of Soul Reapers is that their bodies age slowly, so they can still fight and do their duties despite their old age.

As mentioned, Soul Reapers are different from humans. Although they both die and receive wages for their work, they do not have the same path after they die.

Soul Reapers, on the other hand, reincarnate into humans. Members of the Soul Society expect their spirit energy to be reabsorbed by the organization, according to Shunsui Kyoraku.

The soul reapers of Bleach are a central part of the story, in addition to the worlds of the living and the dead, but they can be a bit complicated to explain, both in the context of the series and their history in Japanese literature, due in part to some aspects about them being lost in translation.

However, as the series goes on, viewers learn more and more about the soul reapers, including what kinds they are, what they are capable of, and even what they have brought about in the past, with audiences getting to learn these things firsthand through Ichigo. And, as mentioned, they also have an interesting history outside the series, including where they surprisingly got their start.

Their exact definition has varied over the years, with them serving as psychopomps who help souls enter the afterlife or even being undead humans themselves that prey on the living. As their exact role changes from time to time, their appearance varies from skeletal or corpse-like to looking perfectly human.

Because of their unique nature, it can be tricky to come up with an English translation of “shinigami.” The Viz translation of Bleach went with “soul reapers,” which had been approved by creator Tite Kubo, likely as a reference to Death serving as “the Grim Reaper.”. Although they appear frequently in Japanese anime and manga, shinigami are not actually from traditional Japanese mythology.

In both stories, a character makes a deal with the figure to become a rich doctor, only for the protagonist to grow arrogant. In the fairy tale, when the hero tries to save a princess from death in the hopes of marrying her, he pays with his life.

The fairy tale is also known for inspiring the Japanese rakugo comedy, “Shinigami no hanashi,” or “Story Of The Shinigami.”. In Bleach, soul reapers are unearthly beings that live in a world parallel to the living world and take the souls of the dead to the Soul Society.

While it’s believed that they are not the first such children born to such a pair, very little information is known about their predecessors, suggesting it is still a rare occurrence. There’s also such a thing as a substitute soul reaper.

Added to this, granting a soul reaper’s powers to a human is also officially prohibited by Soul Society.

Generally, the role of a soul reaper, at least in the Bleach universe, can be divided into three main roles, at least in connexion to the human worlds: Soul Burial, Soul Governance, and Hollow Cleansing. Interestingly, they seem to earn a salary for their work and can even earn bounties for their work with Hollows.

“Soul Governance” involves regulating the flow of spirit-related activity within the Human World and the Spirit World. “Hollow Cleansing” involves cleansing the sins of wandering spirits known as “Hollows.”.

They also tend to survive injuries that would kill a normal human, but they still can be mortally wounded. They also tend to have great spiritual powers, although this comes at an interesting cost: unlike other spirits, they need to eat.

In addition to this, they are also known for using supernatural Zanpakutō swords, which they usually keep on their person. As mentioned, soul reapers can have different appearances in fiction and this is just as true in the world of Bleach.

One trademark of the soul reaper is the “Shihakushō,” a black kimono, usually paired with a white undergarment. Some personalization is allowed, from wearing scarves or shortening sleeves.

As the soul reapers tend to be on the side of the protagonist, this effectively serves as a subversion of associating light with good and dark with evil, at least to the audiences’ perspective. For thousands of years, the soul reapers have been rivals with the Quincies.

As mentioned, soul reapers prefer to cleanse them of their sins, although they are not against punishing them for sins committed in life. The Quincies would rather just kill them.

The anime has a tendency to add villains who turned evil due to the machinations of the Soul Society, such as the Dark Ones, Captain Amagai, and Kusaka. While this could initially just be blamed on the changes in the adaptation, the manga would reveal its incarnation of the soul reapers also had some blood on their hands, too.

Soul Reapers in Bleach tend to be quite strong, they have to be to defend Soul Society and the human world. Throughout Bleach, the audience gets to see multiple examples of Soul Reapers, from the captains of the Gotei 13 to the Lieutenants who follow them around to even Ichigo.

This list will attempt to answer that question with a list of the 10 strongest Soul Reapers in Bleach. Note: Spoilers are aplenty in this article.

Also, because Bleach tends to be inconsistent with its powers and people at certain levels, there may be notable abscenes. Note 2: The author admits to a lack of familiarity with Bleach, having not seen it since Soul Society Arc.

Hitsugaya is the epitome of raw potential. Despite the fact that he mostly has ice powers and keeps to the back of fights, he was always itching to prove himself.

That icy raw potential was finally shown off during Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War arc. He bisected and held off the rather tough Gerard Valkyrie with just his Bankai, Daiguren Hyōrinmaru.

Kisuke Urahara trained Ichigo, his friends, and companions, in the shinigami arts and swordsmanship. He is the former 12th Division captain and lives in the human world selling shinigami items.

Despite setting up shop, Urahara’s skills haven’t dulled since he was able to fend off Wonderweiss, Yammy, and even trap Aizen for a few minutes. Urahara’s sword skills aside, he also founded the Shinigami Research and Development Institute in Soul Society and invented many items to aid the Soul Society, including Gigai (artificial bodies for storing spirit energy).

Usuagara is also a kido master, and his shikai and bankai are among the most versitile when used.

He incapacitated Ichigo with a punch due to his Shunpo being maxed out. Byakua is so quick that only Yoruichi or Soi Fon are able to keep up with him.

Byakuya’s swordsmanship is at the top tier, able to perform lethal techniques with nary an effort. He doesn’t need incantations to pull high-level Kido spells.

Anything caught in that storm is dead before they can think. As the Captain of the 4th Division, Retsu Unohana was recognized mainly for being Soul Society’s master healer.

As the “First Kenpachi”, Unohana’s blood lust surpasses even Kenpachi Zaraki’s, not easy to do as Zaraki and Ichigo fought each other to exhaustion much like Vegeta to Goku from Dragon Ball.

The Captain of the 11th Division, Kenpachi Zaraki, lives for the fight and the thrill of it. He reached Captain rank without awakening his Zanpakuto, and fought Ichigo until the two couldn’t move anymore (recognizing Ichigo as a worthwhile opponent in the process).

His Zanpakuto awakened only when he finally defeated Unohana after a grueling duel during Bleach’s Thousand Year Blood war arc. His spiritual power is immeasurable, able to harm and pressure people even from a distance like gravity increasing.

Shunsui Kyoraku is the new Captain Commander of the Soul Society, for very good reason. His swordsmanship was able to hold and eventually overwhelm someone as powerful as the First Espada.

He’s also a Shunpo master, a great strategist and tactician, and was durable enough to withstand a Cero at point blank range. The scariest part of him is his Shikai and Bankai’s special abiltiies.

The rules feature a shadow game where shadows are manipulated to attack the opponent, and a Squid Game-like game of red-light green-light starts, in which, if the opponent is seen when they move, they die. His Bankai can weaponize despair and make any damage inflicted on Kyokaru reflect on the opponent.

He only survived thanks to his true form being unleashed. 4) Isshin Kurosaki.

He killed Grand Fisher with nary an effort. Beyond that, Isshin was the former captain of the 10th Division.

Masaki, for over a decade before Bleach started. Even so, Isshin still possesses immense enough spiritual power, swordsmanship skills, Shunpo, and kido to rival Aizen.

Sosuke Aizen is the antagonist of Bleach, the icon that many recognize when recalling the show. His lust for power made him betray Soul Society, often literally backstabbing those in his way and treating everyone like a stepping stone.

He is a master swordsman with a supreme intellect, able to think five moves ahead. He is also great whilst unarmed and has immeasurable spiritual power.

He also became effectively immortal. Yamamoto was the Captain Commander of the Gotei 13 over a millennium, because no Shinigami were stronger than him.

If not for Arrancar Wonderweiss, Aizen would’ve died in the flames of the trap. Despite looking old, fragile and mostly hunched over, Yamamoto is akin to Master Roshi of Dragon Ball since he had a very muscular body.

His Shikai is eternal flames and his bankai allows him to hit them with flames as hot as the sun itself. Ichigo Kurosaki is the protagonist of Bleach who had the greatest power growth, as he went from being Rukia’s Substitute Shinigami in the introduction arc to one of the most powerful Shinigami.

Simple, he has multiple power sets from Hollow to Shinigami, to even Fullbring and Quincy.

The question of what happens after we die has haunted humanity for centuries, and the more theories we hear, the more it seems like the answers are shrouded in mystery. Concepts like “heaven” and “the afterlife” conjure up a thousand different images—some scary, some idyllic, some just plain strange.

It can feel impossible to tell which ones are probably true. These concepts, be they peaceful or terrifying, bleak or hopeful, are to some degree all imaginary.

None of us have actually seen any of these “places.” None of us can say for sure exactly what happens after death. Death is humanity’s great unknown.

But, if we read the Bible, some of the mystery surrounding death can be explained. Scripture gives us a straightforward insight into what death actually is and what happens afterward.

The first question to answer about the afterlife is whether there is any afterlife at all. How do we know that there’s anything after death.

End of story. It’s a common belief that the material world we see in front of us is all there is and once we lose that, there’s nothing left.

It’s also common to believe that there is something after death, but it’s on a different plane of existence. And, with the right amount of effort, we can communicate with people who’ve died, reaching out to touch our departed loved ones.

There are many beautiful passages concerning Heaven, where God reigns on His throne, and we all live in peace and fellowship in an eternal paradise. It describes a gorgeous city filled with precious stones and gold pure as glass, with the Tree of Life in the center (Revelation 21, 22).

There, they’ll meet God and become one of the angels so they can watch over their loved ones. But, beautiful as this picture seems, the Bible tells us otherwise.

He spoke to God on multiple occasions and had a strong relationship with Him. If anyone were to be taken up right after death and be whisked away to Heaven, you’d think it’d be Abraham.

But the book of Genesis doesn’t say anything about God taking Abraham up to heaven. Rather, it says that Abraham died and was “gathered to his people” (Genesis 25:8 ESV).

The same goes for King David, a man after God’s own heart. Beloved as he was, David wasn’t taken straight to Heaven, but “slept with his fathers and was buried in the City of David” (1 Kings 2:10).

This metaphor is used over 50 times in the whole of scripture. Even Jesus used it when speaking of his friend Lazarus who died.

First of all, it tells us the dead are in a completely unconscious state without thought or feeling, just as they would be if they were asleep. As King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes:

Their love and their hate and their envy have already perished, and forever they have no more share in all that is done under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 ESV). Once people die, it’s like they fall into a deep sleep.

Taking this into account, we can assume that the dead aren’t taken straight to Heaven. If they were with God as soon as they died, no doubt He would want them to be aware of the fact so He could spend time with them.

Referring to death as a sleep also points out that there can be no communication between the living and the dead. But there’s one more thing we can glean from the sleep metaphor for death.

Sleep is temporary. You lay down in your bed at night and, when you wake up, there’s daylight coming through your window.

But how does one “wake up” from death.

But, the Bible also shows us this won’t always be the case. There is a great hope ahead for us—one that transcends all the hardship we’ve had to slog through in this life on this earth.

Prophets like Elijah and Elisha, empowered by God, raised people from the dead (1 Kings 17:17-24, 2 Kings 4:8-37, 2 Kings 13:14-25, Isa 25:8. 26:19.

Dan 12:1–4). Jesus did the same during his time on earth, bringing back a widow’s son, a young girl, and his dear friend Lazarus, proving that God’s power is greater than death (Luke 7:11-17, Luke 8:40-58, John 11:1-44).

He can “wake us up. ”.

With so many examples of God’s power over death, we see that it is perfectly within His power to do the same for us, to bring back those who have died and restore them to a better life. This is the hope Christ spoke of when he comforted Martha at Lazarus’ tomb, saying “I am the resurrection and the life.

These weren’t just empty promises meant to comfort Martha in her time of grief. Jesus had made these claims before, saying that:

“Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment” (John 5:28-29 ESV). While he was on earth, Jesus proved He had power over death, that He felt the pain and grief of those who lose people they love, and He wouldn’t let death be the end forever.

This plan is detailed in 1 Corinthians: “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits. then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death” (1 Corinthians 15:20-26).

Christ’s resurrection was a sample of what is going to happen when He comes again in triumph, conquering all evil, all wickedness, and finally death itself.

Scripture continues: “Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.

For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”.

Where, O death, is your sting. ” (1 Corinthians 15:51-55).

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

Therefore encourage one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). This is what victory over death looks like.

Death and evil will be wiped away and the entire earth will be made new. Those who were dead will be restored, better and stronger than ever, so that they can live again.

What an incredible day that is going to be. And the best part about it is we’ll never have to leave.

Now that is a paradise worth waiting for. But is that the whole story.

What about the devil. What about the corrupted earth.

God deals with those things in His plan, also. Although many of us like to talk and dream about what Heaven is going to be like, who we’ll get to see there and what we’ll be able to do, there’s always that dark little question that creeps up on us once in a while.

What about the other place.

You can certainly see how much of a huge role they play in Bleach, because even Bleach’s protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki, is a soul reaper. However, just because soul reapers are powerful, it doesn’t mean they are invincible.

Many soul reapers, such as Gin Ichimaru, did die at the hands of their opponents or even a fellow soul reaper. But, what happens to soul reapers after they die was a mystery many fans wanted to resolve.

But soul reapers are already dead, so what happens to them.

This means that they either reincarnate as a human in the human world or they are absorbed in the Soul Society, reincarnating as another soul. Captain-class soul reapers are cast into Hell instead.

If they don’t get reincarnated, their souls are broken down into Reishi which is then absorbed into the soil of Soul Society. Captains of Soul Society don’t share this peaceful fate like their fellow comrades since their souls are built slightly differently than the average souls of other soul reapers.

Shunsui Kyoraku sheds light on why captain-class soul reapers end up in Hell after their deaths in the one-shot, ‘No Breaths From Hell’. Shunsui explains in the latest one-shot by Tite Kubo that all souls have something called a ‘spirit class’.

The bodies of soul reapers are made from Reishi, and hence, they have a spirit class as well.

Most of the individuals from Soul Society fall under the range of 4 to 20. But captains of Gotei 13 are an exception.

The spiritual pressure of captain-class soul reapers’ Reishi is too dense to be broken down and absorbed in the Soul Society. To avoid the risk of keeping such strong Reishi from hanging around, deceased captains are cast to Hell through the Konso Reisai ceremony.

The possibility of these captains emerging back from Hell can’t be denied, and I am certainly looking forward to their comeback. Soul reapers have a longer lifespan compared to mere humans, though they aren’t immortal.

For example, Captain-Commander Yamamoto is at least 2100 years old.

Retsu Unohana might not look a year beyond 25 years, but she is actually over 1000 years old. People do age in Soul Society, but they age quite slowly.

Soul Society dwellers are souls and hence, they need around 150 years to become fully grown adults. Only those who have crossed the threshold of thousand years show some signs of aging.

Death is frequently imagined as a personified force. In some mythologies, a character known as the Grim Reaper (usually depicted as a berobed skeleton wielding a scythe) causes the victim’s death by coming to collect that person’s soul.

As is the case in many Romance languages (including French, Portuguese, Italian, and Romanian), the Spanish word for death, muerte, is a feminine noun. As such, it is common in Spanish-speaking cultures to personify death as a female figure.

In Aztec mythology, Mictecacihuatl is the “Queen of Mictlan” (the Aztec underworld), ruling over the afterlife with her husband Mictlantecuhtli. Other epithets for her include “Lady of the Dead,” as her role includes keeping watch over the bones of the dead.

Our Lady of the Holy Death (Santa Muerte) is a female deity or folk saint of Mexican folk religion, whose popularity has been growing in Mexico and the United States in recent years. Since the pre-Columbian era, Mexican culture has maintained a certain reverence towards death, as seen in the widespread commemoration of the Day of the Dead.

San La Muerte (Saint Death) is a skeletal folk saint venerated in Paraguay, northeast Argentina. As the result of internal migration in Argentina since the 1960s, the veneration of San La Muerte has been extended to Greater Buenos Aires and the national prison system as well.

Although the Catholic Church in Mexico has attacked the devotion of Saint Death as a tradition that mixes paganism with Christianity and is contrary to the Christian belief of Christ defeating death, many devotees consider the veneration of San La Muerte as being part of their Catholic faith. The rituals connected and powers ascribed to San La Muerte are very similar to those of Santa Muerte.

In Guatemala, San Pascualito is a skeletal folk saint venerated as “King of the Graveyard.” He is depicted as a skeletal figure with a scythe, sometimes wearing a cape and crown. He is associated with death and the curing of diseases.

In the African-Brazilian religion Umbanda, the orixá Omolu personifies sickness and death as well as healing. The image of the death is also associated with Exu, lord of the crossroads, who rules cemeteries and the hour of midnight.

In Haitian Vodou, the Gede are a family of spirits that embody death and fertility. The most well-known of these spirits is Baron Samedi.

Yama was introduced to Chinese mythology through Buddhism. In Chinese, he is known as King Yan (t 閻王, s 阎王, p Yánwáng) or Yanluo (t 閻羅王, s 阎罗王, p Yánluówáng), ruling the ten gods of the underworld Diyu.

Separately, in Korean mythology, death’s principal figure is the “Netherworld Emissary” Jeoseungsaja (저승사자, shortened to Saja (사자)). He is depicted as a stern and ruthless bureaucrat in Yeomna’s service.

One of the representative names is Ganglim (강림), the Saja who guides the soul to the entrance of the underworld. According to legend, he always carries Jeokpaeji (적패지), the list with the names of the dead written on a red cloth.

The Kojiki relates that the Japanese goddess Izanami was burnt to death giving birth to the fire god Hinokagutsuchi. She then entered a realm of perpetual night called Yomi-no-Kuni.

After an argument, she promised she would take a thousand lives every day, becoming a goddess of death, as well as giving birth to the gods, Raijin and Fūjin, while dead. There are also death gods called shinigami (死神), which are closer to the Western tradition of the Grim Reaper.

The Sanskrit word for death is mrityu (cognate with Latin mors and Lithuanian mirtis), which is often personified in Dharmic religions.

Gaelic lore also involves a female spirit known as Banshee (Modern Irish Gaelic: bean sí pron. banshee, literally fairy woman), who heralds the death of a person by shrieking or keening.

Tite Kubo’s smash-hit anime series Bleach is a staple of the Shonen genre, and in it, the supernatural takes center stage. The tormented souls of the dead become monsters known as hollows, and it falls to the black-robed Soul Reapers to exorcise them and escort the souls of the dead to the afterlife.

But there are still some lingering questions or odd things ab0out this place, and while these are just minor questions, we wouldn’t mind some answers. There’s definitely some holes in the concept of the Soul Society, after all.

Some of them are the souls of the dead, but others were born in the Soul Society, such as most Soul Reapers. This is especially true of souls born in noble families, such as the Kuchiki, Shihoin, and Fon families.

But is that necessary. You would think that a soul would be a hollow shell filled with light, or something else more spiritual.

This is Rukia, and she gave Ichigo her soul powers so he could fight in her stead as a substitute Soul Reaper. She carries around some useful items, such as red gloves to force out Ichigo’s soul, and a soul pager that can sense hollows.

But Soul Reapers also use hell butterflies to communicate, and we find that odd. With electronic devices around, you’d think hell butterflies would go the way of the Pony Express, but clearly not.

This is the Captain-General, Yamamoto. He is some 2,000 years old, and his power is absolutely incredible.

But the execution procedure itself is outrageously prolonged from start to end and makes a real show of things. We know that the execution was drawn out so Ichigo would have time to rush over and make a dramatic entrance.

That’s a lot of trouble for one condemned prisoner. This is just a quibble, but it does tie in with Rukia’s outlandish execution arc.

Now that just looks weird. She goes around with that thing on, and four guards hang onto the leashes.

This is just goofy. This is Yasutora “Chad” Sado, a half-Mexican, half-Japanese high schooler and a good friend of Ichigo’s.

But now we ask: given its theme, does the Soul Society only accept the souls of deceased Japanese people. Is there a different Soul Society for China, and one for India, South America, Ireland, and the rest.

This is probably the most confusing aspect of the Soul Society of all. Meet Kisuke Urahara, who is one of the foremost inventors and engineers in the whole Soul Society.

We’ve even seen computers and high-tech labs in Squad 12, and the Squad 2 barracks has air conditioning. You’d think that by now, the Soul Reapers would use radio headsets, flashlights, and many other items for both convenience and work.

When and how did the Soul Society come into being. It’s hard to believe that this place always existed since it serves just one purpose: to house the souls of dead people.

Did the Soul King make it. Or did a huge collection of ancient dead souls fuse themselves together to form this place’s foundation.

We’d like to know more. Byakuya is among the wealthiest men in the Soul Society, and once upon a time, Yoruichi was also neck-deep in cash, being a part of the esteemed Shihoin family.

We find this odd. Who mints the money, and decides its value.

What’s even more strange (and tragic) is that even in this heavenly place, poverty exists, and many families and communities barely scrape by while the noble families are buried in cash. How is it that people are escorted to the glorious afterlife, only to end up in poverty and misery once again.

These are prisoners of an underground detention center known as the Maggot’s Nest (what a name). We first see this place when Kisuke takes his then-Lieutenant Hiyori there to recruit a young Mayuri Kurotsuchi for some science experiments.

But this seems like a cruel and heavy-handed way to take care of such people. We already have the punishment force and Squad 2 to track down and take out dangerous individuals, so we hardly need this place.

This is a list of characters for Tite Kubo’s manga and anime series Bleach. It takes place in a fictional universe in which the characters are split into various factionalized fictional races.

The main character of the series, Ichigo Kurosaki, has the ability to interact with ghosts. He meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper from the Soul Society whose mission is to deal with hungering lost souls called Hollows.

As Ichigo guides the recently deceased to the afterlife while contending with Hollows, he clashes and forms alliances with the other supernaturally powered residents of the city, including his friends.

The size of the cast has been explained by author Kubo as the result of his writing process, in which he first creates new figures, then writes their personalities and character arcs, and finally assembles these interactions into a new plot.

Bleach’s creative process is focused around character design. When writing plotlines or having difficulties generating new material, Tite Kubo begins by thinking of new characters, often en masse, and rereading previous volumes of Bleach.

When brainstorming character designs, he will go out and draw the faces of real people he sees, a hobby of his dating back to childhood. Kubo considers every character to be unique and wants each of them to have the opportunity for character development in the course of the series.

Kubo has cited influences for elements of Bleach ranging from other manga series to music, foreign language, architecture, and film. He attributes his interest in drawing the supernatural and monsters to Shigeru Mizuki’s Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro and Bleach’s focus on unique weaponry and battle scenes to Masami Kurumada’s Saint Seiya, both manga Kubo enjoyed as a boy.

Several characteristics from them such as the kidō spells and the zanpakutō swords(katana) are also based on Japanese literature. Rukia Kuchiki was the first character Kubo designed, but he did not see her as a lead character, so he created Ichigo Kurosaki to be the series protagonist.

the powers from the Quincy are taken from German, while Hollows and Arrancar instead use Spanish terms. for the latter, Kubo believed that the language sounded “bewitching” and “mellow” and that felt appropriate for a species of ghost.

Ichigo Kurosaki (黒崎 一護, Kurosaki Ichigo) is the main protagonist of the series. A tall orange-haired high school student, Ichigo becomes a “substitute Soul Reaper” after unintentionally absorbing most of Rukia Kuchiki’s powers.

When creating the manga series, Kubo commented that Rukia Kuchiki, the first character he created, did not seem like a lead character, so he created Ichigo to be the series protagonist.

Rukia Kuchiki (朽木 ルキア, Kuchiki Rukia) is a Soul Reaper,(死神, Shinigami, literally ‘Death God’), who is assigned hollow extermination duties in Karakura Town. She meets Ichigo for the first time when she breaks into his house, not knowing that he can see her.

Rukia lacks it and cannot return to the Soul Society. She assumes a temporary lifestyle as a regular human, using a gigai (human form) obtained from Kisuke Urahara’s shop, and enrolls into Ichigo’s high school and takes up residence in his closet, while teaching him how to be a substitute Soul Reaper in her place.

Rukia is voiced by Fumiko Orikasa in the Japanese version of the anime and by Michelle Ruff in the English dub.

She used to have a crush on Ichigo since the beginning, however due to Ichigo’s selfless wish to protect his loved ones, Orihime genuinely falls in love with him. Since the age of three, she had been an orphan when her older brother Sora left their abusive parents’ home with her and raised her on his own.

Though initially devoid of spiritual powers, she develops spiritual awareness early in the plot and later obtains the god-like ability to warp reality through rejecting past phenomena.

Renji Abarai (阿散井 恋次, Abarai Renji), is a Soul Reaper of Squad 6 in the Gotei 13. When he was first introduced he played an antagonistic role as he was sent to the human world to find and bring Rukia back to the Soul Society.

He has since become a major protagonist and a consistent ally and rival of Kurosaki. His weapon throughout the series is Zabimaru.

Renji is voiced by Kentarō Itō in the Japanese version of the anime and by Wally Wingert in the English dub.

He bears a deep grudge against all Soul Reapers, including Ichigo, and is an early antagonist in the series. He comes to view Ichigo differently over time, and eventually becomes a valuable ally and a friendly rival.

Once gathered, these particles can be shaped into spirit-energy constructs, foremost among them a bow and arrow, and to fuel various magical spells and superhuman abilities.

Yasutora Sado (茶渡 泰虎, Sado Yasutora), better known as Chad (チャド, Chado), is one of Ichigo’s friends at school. He is of mixed Japanese/Mexican heritage and a student who towers over his classmates at 6 feet 5 inches.

When he attempts to protect Ichigo’s sister Karin and her friends from a hollow, he discovers a unique ability that strengthens and armors his right arm, enabling him to fight hollows. He is quite loyal to his friends, especially Ichigo, who is one of his closest friends.

Chad is voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto in the Japanese version of the anime. In the English dub, Chad is voiced by Marc Worden from episode 2–85, by Jamieson Price from episode 86–366 and by Alain Mesa in Thousand-Year Blood War.

Hollows (虚, Horō) are the class of spirit that most enemies in the series they are part of. They are spirits that had been human but were not sent to Soul Society in due time after death.

Their main characteristic is a white mask completely covering their face and a hole near their chest. Each hollow’s mask has a design unique to that individual.

The 10 Espadas are numbered 0–9, 0 being the strongest and 9 the weakest. But the rating also works with spirit pressure density numbered 1–10, with Espada’s 0’s power contained with a 10 tattoo.

Soul Reaper, also known as Boss Slayer or Reaper Task, is a daily activity released on 18 August 2014, although it is possible to unlock the ability to participate in the activity multiple times a day.

Death tasks players with “reaping” various boss monsters in special assignments, which reward Slayer experience and reaper points that can be spent for various items and effects, including hydrix gems, a new title, and a set of cosmetic gear.

The player can then speak to Death to obtain a grim gem and get assigned their first task. A task may be rerolled up to five times per day, but doing so reduces the point rewards by 25% for each reroll, excluding the first reroll.

A task can be cancelled for free if the player does not complete the task by 00:00 UTC, if they go to Death. If this is done via gem, it will take a few days, and the first reroll will be consumed.

The only way to get more than one task a day is by purchasing the “Additional Tasks” from the rewards, which costs 250 Slayer Points to get a new task. The option to purchase additional tasks with Slayer Points may be unlocked by paying 150 Reaper Points, an effective cost of up to 29,324,077 gp.

If this option is pursued, it is recommended to have a large quantity of slayer points on hand due to the immense cost of obtaining numerous reaper assignments.

To do this, the player must have a task from two days before reset, but log in any time before reset. The player can then finish the task from two days ago, without logging out claim their free task of the day before reset (can be claimed even after 00:00 UTC as long as they did not log out or lobby), and finish that one, and then relog finally to claim the task from the day after reset and complete that one too.

After the first task, further ones can be obtained by using the grim gem, which acts similarly to the enchanted gems for standard slayer, making travelling back to his office unnecessary apart from collecting rewards.

By unlocking the Reaper’s Choice perk (250 reaper points), there is a 10% chance that Death will allow the player to pick a boss of their choice, rather than assigning a random boss. It is possible to carry over a Reaper’s Choice from one day to another by not selecting an option when prompted, even if it’s a reroll.

Death (or Frank) may assign the following bosses, with numbers depending on the difficulty of the boss, as long as the player meets all the requirements.

Selecting either group bosses or extended tasks increases the number of reaper points rewarded for all tasks by 25%, even for solo boss assignments when group assignments are enabled. Selecting both options increases the number of reaper points rewarded by roughly 50% (the bonus points for both +25% are rounded down before adding to base, example: 23 > 28 > 33 or 10 > 12 > 14).

It is recommended to toggle both options, especially if the player can find a team for group bosses where needed. Otherwise, they can be safely skipped for another assignment with maximum point potential.

Unlike normal slayer:. After each kill, the player is notified how much they have left for the task.

Every 10 tasks completed awards an additional 10 points, while every 50 tasks completed awards an extra 50 points. The higher point rewards override lesser ones.

Bosses that possess a harder variant, such as hard or challenge mode (not successors, like Nex: Angel of Death), provide additional slayer experience and reaper points. However, all of the kills must be done on said mode.

If a deathtouched dart is used to collect a soul, the kill will not count towards the task, as it does not register on the Beasts tab. This effect will also persist for 15 minutes after throwing the dart, so don’t kill the assigned boss right away after a dart has been thrown.

While on a Reaper assignment, custom-fit trimmed masterwork armour will not degrade until the task is completed.

It is not accessible via the grim gem.

Most of these can also be purchased with 250 slayer points. There are also cosmetic rewards that are unlocked by completing certain objectives.

The Final Boss title is not required for the trimmed completionist cape.

Each reaper point is worth 195,494 coins, based on the median GE price of an incomplete hydrix (or 79,039 coins based on death notes). Since some rewards can be purchased with either reaper points or slayer points, one of those two options will usually be cheaper because of the different opportunity costs.
